What a bitter-sweet weekend that was Paul. It does look great. Let us know what you find. MikeV

Here is what I found today after removing the carb from the vertical cylinder:
I also found something about the Moretti, you can pull the vertical head and cylinder with the motor in the frame!!
In the end it all has to come apart.... can't find the exhaust valve!

:o Ouch Paul,
Sorry to see this. Hope you can sort it out. I'm truly amazed you didn't go down and were quick enough to pull the clutch in! I'm also amazed your frame permits you to pull the vertical head off whilst still in the frame! Only, after seeing all of the metal bits of the remaining valve, it's going to be pulled apart no doubt...
Is the engine still a 650? Do you have a source of replacement parts available? A spare engine or 2?
Keep us informed of your progress.
It never ends......
Cheers,
Steve

Feel gutted for you,but don,t despair too much. I,ve had an air cooled Weslake head in a worse condition than yours,i thought all was lost, there was even daylight seen through it,as the head was no longer available I thought the bike was finished, but a good engine builder, and ace welder, filled the head completely with weld and re machined the head to as new. That bike then performed a little better than previous and went on to win most of it,s following races.I must say this was a classic moto cross machine, but the repair procedure would be the same, after all it,s just an engine. Costly but do-able. In fact, the bike was virtually unbeaten after rebuild, only let down by ignition problems, but the head was faultless. Good luck, all will come good, there are people to help.

ps to above, you,ll need to investigate thoroughly around the main bearings for cracks, but you,ll be aware of that anyway.

Thanks Ian, so far the cases look fine, the Vertical cylinder has some good chunks out of it!

Head is repaired, motor back together and ready to into the frame.... If it ever warms up here!
Thanks to Mike V for shipping a set of 900ss cams to allow the build to get finished.
Too many issues getting the number 7's to work.
Here is the before and after photos of my mess.
