puf.....puf.....In this block I used the engine's pistons Ducati paso, sinking with the router receipts where they fit into the valve opening.

I was able to arrive at a compression ratio of 10.6 / 1 and the squish of 08mm.

I would say that with the pistons road is a good result.

I believe that the compression ratio should not go beyond 11/1, but this is my opinion.

Now I'm going have to insert the block into the frame, there are many days that I do in the evening after dinner the small hours, I do not know if I succeed, he wanted to take my work, in my workshop, in this life.

I think tonight lighthouse still 1.30 at night.

For me, that's okay!

Hello Carlo Your motor work looks very fine!
For street 11/1 good. For race track 12 or maybe 12.5/1 with good gas? You see in america we like BIG (like Louis)....big ice...big compression...! More Compression= more torque.Tonight I finish my piston for long (welded) combustion chamber. With a small bump fitted close to the head I have 13/1. Squish at .1 mm. I hope it will be a good space to burn with one plug. You must look west when it runs to see the big bang across the ocean.

Hey Cranky. What cams will you use? What is the distance between the valves at rest? And at maximum lift for that matter?
Thanks, MikeV

Did Carlo miss that you threw down the gauntlet on that last sentence?

What a pleasure to hear from you, my job is great, your work is STELLAR, MEGA GALACTIC, UNATTAINABLE!

1st question: How much space is left when the valves meet and pass close to each other?

I can not teach you anything, but I want to understand what, in your opinion, increases power by a very high compression ratio.

Sample-Compression ratio 11/1-----------72 kw
Sample-Compression ratio 12/1-----------78 kw
Sample-Compression ratio 13/1-----------75 kw CRAK?

The bike TT2 600 Rutter had 10.4 / 1 compression and it was 240 km, Rino Caracchi NCR always tells me not to exceed 11/1 compression, because then the bike tends, as they say in Italian dialect, (pulls back).

I tell you these things humbly and trying to learn, I see what you know to do.

Try to have patience with your Italian friend.

Ciao Crancky!

Hello Carlo and Mike
"MEGA GALACTIC " I have never been called that even from my mother! Maybe Carlo thinks I will go into outer space with 13/1?
Cams are 900SS 1994 Valve size 42/36 Valve/Valve clearance is .12mm (using MBP keepers) Can run as close as .1mm. (important with Montjuic cams)
Squish average is .1mm (absolute minimum is .8mm with Carrrillo rods)
To answer the question about compression ratio is not so easy. More will make more power TO A LIMIT. Sometimes this limit is the piston bump blocking the flow in. Some times this is the Gas available to burn correctly. I think Rino Caracchi was not a stupid man. If he could go faster with 13/1 he would. Today is different. We understand more about combustion. A new 696 head from Ducati does not look like the old pantah head. The fuels are very good today compared to then. Also compare the old Bosch step ignition to a Kokasan or programable and 13/1 is possible. We have examples of this with Loudbike and Bill Swenson F1. Average increase from 10.5 to 13 is 10% but also much better torque.... And Maybe Mega Galactic results

Did I read correctly Cranky? V-to-V clearance when opened to their closest point gets down to .12mm? .005"? Or, did you mean valve "lash"?

Even if so, what is the clearance when they are sitting still in the seats?

What is your opinion on twin spark with such domed pistons?

Opps Mike! I stand corrected. Move that point over one. Valve/Valve on overlap is 1.2mm (min is 1.)
You want to know the distance between the valve heads seated? I can measure. I did not move valve centers or reangle these heads so it is standard.

Jarno asks my opinion on twin plug heads. Yes they are better for big dome and hi compression. It also allows lower grade octane fuel. For street motor it is good. For racing I prefer 1 plug and good fuel.

When Ducati handed over to us Rutters 85 TT2 engine it came with the engine spec, that I still have the hand written spec by Guiliano Pedriti, Guiliano was the engine man in the Ducati experemental / competitions shop. The compression ratio was in fact 10.36:1. It did break the timing lights on Sulby straight in the Isle of Man at over 150 MPH. Not bad for a 600 in 1985.

I agree with cranky roller that the fuels today are far superior to what we had back then, and I did hear that a guy last year was running 11.00:1 on his TT2.
