The buyer of my TT1 asked me to make the bike street legal (more or less like Lou's Gulf bike) and I brought the bike out into the sun for the first time yesterday. Still waiting for the bodywork to come back, but the rolling chassis is complete. The side stand is off a Bimota DB1 (Cranky has the banged-up one I used as a prototype to get the pivot repositioned correctly) and it fits and works a treat. Tail light / license plate mount is custom and has LEDs for flashers, brake and tail light - as are the dash and headlight mounts (thanks to Lou for the Gulf bike detailed pics). Lou also turned me onto Eastern Beaver who make up wiring harnesses and sell a nice selection of connectors http://www.easternbeaver.com/. The turn signals will only be on the bike long enough to get past the DMV, so the wiring's temporary. Headlights will be connected via DC power jack & plug when the bodywork comes back.

Lights come off in a heartbeat as does the tail light / license plate mount. Tough project - not something I'd car to repeat - but I'm happy with the result..

PS, I have never seen those carburettors before, please fill us all in on what they are, how they perform.

Cheers,

Steve,
You have created a piece of rolling sculpture! :D For sure you, Lou, Mike, Carlo, Paul, and I'm sure many others unnamed on this board have raised the bar of what is possible with perseverance and an eye for mechanical integrity and beauty. Thanks for sharing your artwork.
Mark

Guys - thanks for the kind words (they mean a lot), but really; everyone on the board is coloring outside the lines and running with scissors. I could never have done this work 4 or 5 years ago - it's looking at the amazing work everyone else is doing that inspires me to do better. What I mean to say is that if I've raised the bar, it's only me responding to everyone else raising the bar. Everyone here is at a different level of experience and the knowledge transfer that's been ongoing is pushing all of us to new levels.

It's only metal and fiberglass and whenever we get over our heads, there's always someone on the board who can point us in the right direction. Two members sent me detailed pics of their endurance light approaches and I chose a variation on both of them. Not 'cause mine's better, just cause I could.

I love this place, but don't ask me to do another street conversion.. ;)

BTW - I learned to bend tubing with a torch during this project - made a full scale template with construction paper, got a welder to help me fill the lengths with sand and plug the ends and apply heat. We screwed a couple of bends up until we nailed the heat level and placement and then it was a piece of cake. Only issue was the paper template caching fire a few times...

Cheers,

They're Mikuni Pro-Series 41s, Mike. Used a lot on these motors back in the day and still available at a reasonable price. I like 'em a lot; better throttle response, more tuning options.

Really cheap on eBay, but not a lot of $$ new. Palmer swears by the 39s and I use the 41s.

Regards,
