Last week I had to do some field inspection near Ancona, in the sunny hills of Marche.
A day later a nice trip heading west over SS77, SS75 and finally to the coast over SS74.
Plan to do it next year on the 1974 SS, but now it was a fourwheeldeal.
Next day through the Toscane hills to Montespertoli.
Carlo was hard at work

we had a nice chat with Antonella and of course had to talk about bikes.
After more than an admiring glance at Carlo's collection, we got to the gearbox-issue he had earlier that week.
So I searched the manuals I could find to get some ratios
PT 16/40 21/36 24/32 27/29 30/27
Pantah 16/40 21/36 24/32 27/29 29/27
F1 and Sport 16/40 21/36 24/32 27/29 29/28
Indiana 350 14/43 20/37 24/32 27/29 29/28
Indiana 650 14/43 20/37 24/32 27/29 29/27
The elefant has the same ratios as the Indiana (with a difference between 350 and 650)
Didn't have any data on the Paso.
Note : I just checked the ratios, as we found that there were different lenghts AND splining at the driven and driving shaft.
We also compared two shafts of which the later type had gears that were about 3 mm larger (broader ?).
Do NOT forget that the early gearbox was based on the PT and was already on the limit with a standard 500 pantah.
Adding 20 hp could stress it beyond its breaking point.
