Hi does any one in ducati land know how to get the clear coating of a alloy swingarm? Is it a anodising? I,ve read elsewhere that caustic soda solution might work. Thanks for any ideas.Boucher.

Restoration tip. Don't put anodized parts into your dishwasher, the dishwasher detergent will remove the anodize from the surface of your part. The active ingredient of dishwasher detergent is bi-carb soda aka baking soda, not caustic soda.

Baking soda is also good for cleaning your microwave, deodorizing your refrigerator and carpets, and cleaning your BBQ. (says so on the packet I have beside me ;) ) Very handy product and as cheap as chips.

I don't think that the Verlicchi swing-arm is anodized however, nor have I noticed it being painted in clear coat as is the custom with metal finished Japanese parts. I think it has been given a "satin" finish, which simply means the part has been passed over using a scuffing/scouring pad, instead of a polishing pad.

Make a dull & satin finish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uih2obvWi-Y

Go to youtube and search for brushed and satin to see how to bring up that finish on your parts.

I am looking forward to learning what you discover as I need to tidy up a swing-arm of my own soon.

Cheers,
MikeA

Restoration Tip 2:

Be sure to remove all motorcycle parts from the dishwasher BEFORE your wife comes home.

Restoration Tip 3:

Leave no evidence that the dishwasher has been in use while she has been out. 8-)
