Camshafts

Hi,

my planning is getting more precise and the questions get numerous :roll:

Base engine is 1992 750 with both carbs to the front

Will be used with 40mm Dellortos on short intake flanges

Heads will receive porting and slightly bigger valves than original (41/35)

Will get forged pistons and compression ratio of about 1:10

Will only be raced, hence top end power is what I am looking for, but should stay kinda realiable, so no astronomic rpm figures also

Any suggestions and the info where to buy.

Ducati Kämna in Germany is supplying cams but they ask for 900€ which seems a bit steep. Bought race cams for a Lancia Delta Integrale 16V for half the money

If you have patience you can watch for a set of used 900SS cams for sale on eBay, but they have become scarce. Slightly better are used ST2 cams, which are more scarce. Both have a lot more valve lift and longer duration than any stock 750 cam. A fellow in the US has some Montjuich-spec cams for sale on eBay now, but at $1,100US. These have much longer duration and notably higher lift than stock. Vee Two used to sell a variety of camshaft; most seem to have VERY high lift, but not much increase in duration. Not sure what the cams you mentioned are, but if new the price might be at market today.

You should find Bike Boy's (Brad) cam chart and decide what kind of engine you are building, simplistically, is it high lift or long duration in character? And it will keep you from buying from those who list all Ducati 2-valve cams as the same.

I have to compare lift and duration, need to find reliable info on the cams you mentioned.
Without knowing I am just a bit suspicious if these stock cams can supply me with the needed air at higher revs for a race engine.

Was written in quite a hurry, it was supposed to mean that I am using an engine with no reversed head, a newer one from a 750 SS

RaoulD,just to be clear,Old engines to1990 have both exhausts facing forward,New ,later engines have front exhaust forward,rear exhaust backward(with both carbs in the middle),and these have smaller diameter S/Arm spindle.Cheers.
