Post subject:  Viton valve seals

When J-Precision reworked my heads two years ago, Patrice Juteau installed viton valve seals with a small spring around their neck (see photo taken from AV & V web site).

After participating in about 6 track days, I notice that the closer arm hits the valve seals and has even cut in half the small spring on one seal.

I suppose that valve seals with a small spring may be better than seals without spring. But, as you can see in one photo, at least the original shape seal does not get hitted by the closer arm when bottoming.

Have someone experienced this problem ?

What do you recommend ?

Thanks for any advice,

Gilles

The bottoms of the closing rockers can be relieved to clear the seals. Eons ago there was a service bulletin about that when they went to the guide top seals instead of the o ring inside the guide. You must be using some rather high lift cams? Closer inspection of your pic reveals the top of the seal is a fair amount larger diameter than the older style seal. Break out the grinder!
