...that was an abrupt end to a nice tour planned heading to the Dolomites. After shifting down from neutral to the first gear a loud bang occured and the clutch had no more friction. Obviously, the spring retainer of the clutch went off. I hoped that might have been an easy repair on the roadside - until I found a roller and piece of aluminium.

..how found this roller the way to that part of the motor?

Regards Wolf

Cool bike.....sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope its something minor!!! I dont really have a guess as I am not a Pantah expert, someone on here will know for sure. I have never been in to the bottom end of a pantah, if I were to guess from the picture, looks like a piece of case and maybe a dowel?

Looks more like one of the bevel's clutch thingies.
Couldn't find anything Pantah related.

Did You repair it and got on with Your tour of the Dolomiti ?

ciao

...I didn't dare to continue, because I'm quite sure that the roller comes from the bearing #32

I think I was lucky that the roller found ist way to the clutch cover, otherwise I would have made the Sella Ronda - which is really fun...did it in the past with the 900 Super Sport (bevel) as well with the BMW R 80 G/S. I was curious about the TT2 experience - next year...

Cheers Wolf

Hey Wolf...
I assume that is not a very common place for a bearing failure. Be sure to post what you find after you open up that engine.

Hallo Wolf. Did you switch to roller bearing from stock ball bearing (as suggested by Cranky) there? If not.......then how did a roller get out of there? MikeV

Mike,

I'm not sure if the bearings were original or modified...

is it advisable to go to roller bearings? I was not aware of that.

Hi Wolf....
Another potential source of the roller you found. The 600SL parts manual shows two "rollers" inside the main shaft. (#27) These are not present in the F1, Alazzurra or Elefant manuals. So do they actually perform some sort of rotary task or are they just plugs in a shaft that is drilled all the way through? If this is your mystery roller the question has to be asked again.... How did it get out of there?
