Finally a rainy day so time to finally show the forum how I tried to improve the M1R forks on my TT1.
I had tried the Matris catridge kit from Italy that was much better than stock but still had limits with modern race rubber.
Would have been easier to just bolt on modern forks but I had a pile of these old forks and tend not to do things in the simple way like most of you forum members. First up documenting all the different configurations of these forks at least in regards to Ducati. Stay tuned

Looking forward to seeing how it’s done!

Fork tuning. Right up there with exhaust tuning. I also hope to learn something.

I am really looking forward to this Mike. Some good rainy-weather tech stuff to read. But, I think you are already in trouble: if you did not put the right-hand side (rebound, or is it compression?) parts in one box, and the left-hand (compression, or is it rebound?) parts in another then you may never get some of those sets back together. You have already shown me more lengths of tubes than I knew of. Thanks, MikeV

I managed to fit the 916-748 Showa dampers into the 35mm Marzocchi NSR Honda that I have in my 500cc monoshock, and consequently into the 38mm M1Rs, using just one damper in the sleeve with external adjustment and a bigger spring and thicker oil in the other stem that serves as a bottoming out parachute.

There are some more versions of the M1R 41.7 but the measurement sheet is what I have documented.
Always curious to see the 17 mm axle when my old bevels had a full 20 mm. I had though about this combined with the forks that control compression one side and rebound the other leads to flexing around. The Matris kit I had been using had these same compromises but much better damping control.

I'm very interested to know if is possible to shorten a long Paso M1R to the short Db1 total lenght.
I think that for a TT1 it's enough a 750mm lenght fork

I have shortened a tube when I bought some forks, they were different lengths, so I pit one in a lathe, shortened and recut the the threads for the cap.
Time consuming but not hard to do,
Good luck

Yes many option for fork mods. Probably the easiest being the Matriss kit as I had been running but I wanted to take it a few steps farther.
I had decided that from appearance I wanted to use the old style F08 mounting with adapter for the 4 piston caliper. The lower legs on the Paso are longer than the 851 and configured for the plastic bushings. Time for some lathe work to cut them down and adapt to proper bushings. I "borrowed" some chevy roller lifters from a friend and adapted them to my lathe centers. This would be my turning fixture once I turned the od true to the id bearing bore.
