Hi everyone and Happy New Year (11th Jan already  )

After about four and a half years of slow progress I am finally routing electrical cables on the TT1....

I had previously noticed the small hoop (approx 3/4") welded on the frame to the underside / right hand side of the main cross brace / shock support, but never thought much about it.
Since my battery positive terminal and the starter solenoid are both on the right hand side of the bike I'm planning to route the +ve cable along that side of the frame. And then I came across the hoop again :)

Does anyone know the purpose of the hoop?
I could use it as a cable support but thought I might be missing out on something :)

Not the most technical of discussions - but it is Sunday...
I hope you all have a peaceful and healthy 2025!
Cheers
Rob

Glad you're retired! I've always thought it was used to route the clutch cable nicely. Anyone else? I could be wrong, but that's what I use it for! Lou

Thanks Lou. That certainly makes sense.
I have the hydraulic clutch at the moment and have routed the hose round the back of the vertical cylinder.
So in my case the hoop will be spare.
Here's a more interesting photo of the state of progress.
Hoping to get a start attempt soon! :)
Cheers
Rob

Thanks Lou. There are a few details I'm not so happy with, but the idea is to get it going and then improve over time.
I'm in the UK - about 45 mins SW of London by train, in a town called Fleet.
I'm hoping to have the bike finished and tested so that I can enter the annual Ducati Club Netherlands races at Assen in May. It's a great event, with races for Ducati's of all ages and capacities. You're likely aware of it. So I'll let you all know if that happens this year :)
I'm lucky enough to have a few other projects to keep me going in retirement ( I've only been retired about 9 months):
A couple of old single cylinder classic racers, one 250 narrow case and one 350 widecase. Plus I recently acquired a 1976 900SS barn find, which someone has started restoring but needs a complete engine rebuild / wiring etc. A few pics below for interest.
So they'll keep me busy in the garage when the TT1 is race fit :)
Hopefully I can get over to the USA for one of the Symposiums in the future.
Thanks to you guys for keeping this forum and enthusiasm going. It's an invaluable source of information. So much knowledge available. But still doesn't stop me making my own mistakes :)
All the best
Rob

That is a nice barn find! If not for the engine then the "oily rag'' would be good enough. Good start on the TT. MikeV

Hi Mike - re the 900SS I wasn't very clear:
It was a barn find by the previous owner. He restored the frame, wheels, brakes, paint and other parts but did not want to carry on with the engine and electrics.
In fact there is nothing inside the engine casings / barrels... I have some boxes with most of the parts, including a good set of rods / crank.
He assembled it so that he could apply to the UK vehicle licensing dept. to get them to issue an age related number (license) plate. There was no registration paperwork with the bike when he acquired it.
I'm some way off getting to work on the bike yet.
Cheers
Rob
