Ok Lee,
I know you are a busy man.. but...
This image is small. It shows the standard Pantah axle that I WILL measure & dimension for you!

This version is used on 900SS of the mid 70's... I think it looks "cooler"

But, YOU must tell me if the hole diameter of each fork leg is the same or is ONE smaller in dia???? Got it?
Otherwise, if I measure and draw up for you the standard Pantah axle....it won't fit your new fangled Marzocchi replicas... OK?

Give me till tonight. You will surely require spacers too.

Cheers,
Steve

Lee,
as promised....

I'm still not sure of the width of your replica setup, so take this as a guide. All care....

Good luck!
PM me if you require any other information.
Cheers,
Steve

Steve that's awesome!! That really explains everything. Thanks for that!! I owe you a beer or Three for that.
I've attached a pic of my forks and some approx measurements.
As you can see my front end is a lot narrower than the standard Pantah road going front ends. (I believe that the Marzocchi Triple Clamps were originally spec'd for a dirt bike!!!!! Gotta love the Italian way of using what was already available!!

Also the left fork axle hole (looking at the pic), is 23.5mm Dia with no pinch bolts in place, and the Right axle hole is 20mm, so maybe the std Pantah axle could work if I shortened it at the threaded end.

Thanks again.
Lee.

Hello Friends, I beg to make an assessment.

I hope that my simultaneous translator translates well.

First phase:
We need to know the inner diameter of the wheel bearings.
Second phase:
We will make the axis of the initial measurement of the right fork leg, looking at the bike from the front.
Third phase:
We will put the axis inside the wheel, and will do the thinner part that will be threaded, in order to put the Bulone outside of the stem of the fork.

Fourth phase:

We infileremo the pin to measure without making the thread, we'll mount the wheel with the brake discs to make the alignment of the brake discs perfectly centering the front wheel.

I do not know if you can find a pin that has to be perfectly equivalent to your measurements.

I build doing many steps on the lathe.

If you want I measure the pin of my tt2. Ciao.

Hi Lee,
listen to Carlo! He's done this many times.
Whilst I think your wheel bearings holes should still be 20mm dia, the width you have measured between your forks is the questionable dimension. I say that because you will need to fit your front wheel including the discs but without a tyre.
Then, make sure the discs are centered in the calipers (best done with pads in so it fits in nice and tight) and measure the spacers required.
Upon fitting, you should allow the thread to finish at the end face of the LHS fork (or the end that has the smallest dia.)... Because, the nut is done up to torque spec first and the forks bounced up and down to centre the discs to the pads. Then the pinch bolts are tighten (not overly) again using nyloc nuts (usually M8) Maybe your replicas use M6?
That is why the other end has the 17 flats to use an open end spanner to stop the axle from turning when you tighten the M16x1.5 nyloc nut. (I have used the fine pitch thread as per standard Pantah) Otherwise, a standard M16 only comes as 1.75 pitch which is corse.
Good luck. Listen to the master Carlo!

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks, guys, yes, that makes good sense.
My bearing ID is 20mm.
I'll machine up a dummy 20mm axle and slot everything together paying particular attention to the disc centres.
Once they're right it should be plain sailing from there on in.

I wasn't sure if the 23.5mm hole in the fork leg had a sleeve in place to allow a 20mm bar (Threaded at both ends) to the be used as I've seen a few pics of bikes with nuts on both sides of the forks, that was the confusing part.

The "T" bar axle would be pretty handy for quick wheel changes!!

I've supply more pics of my progress if it helps anybody else.

Lee.

Hi Lee,
don't sleeve it buddy. Make sure the larger dia side of the axle is a slide fit not a loose fit. Plus, you'll need a shoulder for the wheel bearing to butt up to. That's why I have a spacer there.
The T bar is a great idea to allow you to grab the axle and pull slide it out when changing front wheels. Otherwise, with the stock Pantah version, there is nothing to grab on to. Invariably, I use a wooden dowel to punch it out from the threaded side.
You can thread it both sides, but I wouldn't. Otherwise, like the rear axle, one side keeps undoing when you are doing up the other side nut!
Good luck.
Cheers,
Steve

hello friends, hello lee, I feel very useless, I believe that every pin front of a race bike, we must do it very carefully.

I can understand how you feel, you feel in front of a problem, and not to the equipment to make it happen.

The front pin, it's a stupid thing to do, but it is also true that we must do so with great care, to ensure perfect alignment and a perfect centering of the disks.

As I will be there with you from my workshop, if you give me the measurement with a design of your front pin, I realize I can tell you, but I think you should rely to a metalworker of confidence, build and make your front pin .

The rear pin is easy. The front pin, it should be done right, there are too many things to check, it happened to me many times to make mistakes, even though I have the bike in front of me, how can I help you?

I feel useless. sob ... sob ...

Stop crying legend Carlo! You are NOT useless!
Come to Australia to finish my garden if you feel useless! I will feed you Abruzzese food for your hard work! Antonella can go shopping with my wife using your credit card.... maybe you both should stay in Italy!
Then, after you finish in the garden, you can finish off my bike!
See....win-win situation!
Ciao
Stefano
