Hello Lee,
I used a Wilbers with remote res. and adjustable length and comp and rebound.
The adjustable length come in handy setting the geometry.
Don't forget there isn't much room around the rear carb for a wide shock.

Pantah, No you're more than ok mate, my measurements were with the bike on it's engine stand with both wheels off the ground, so I'm guessing it'll be around 340mm with both wheels on the ground, but I'm away riding my Ducati Monster with work buddies this weekend so I'll get back to you with more accurate numbers early next week.

Graeme, I'll take a look at the Wilbers stuff as well, I think it was Bob Garner who had a Wilbers shock in his TT2 at the Island Classic this year too.

Alright, then. A few weeks ago, my parcel arrived from Carlo Leocini, Pics below of the beautiful parts he manufactures. Very impressed, and such a nice family too!! I highly recomend his parts. I got a pair of 280mm front disc rotors and a 260mm rear, along with rear master cyl, and caliper and brackets etc...
I may well use the Front discs on my original Campy wheels and use the TZ 280mm Rotors as they're the same dia as the original ones, so I'm not at any advantage and it'll save me trying to fabricate spacers etc..
The rear disc I'll be trying to fit to my TZ250 rear wheel, possibly I'll need to make another caliper bracket as the offset will no doubt be way off, we'll see soon enough.
All the parts that I don't use just now will be saved for when I put the bike back to original spec when I'm old and gray!!! lol... :lol:
I must also apologise for the previous pics quality, (I was using my mobile phone), now I'm using a Canon 550D SLR, much better!

Hello Pat, I thank you for your compliments, you are in Italy, gritting his teeth, unfortunately to pay are always the same.

My wife and I do our job very passionately, in Italy we say that the motorcycle is not like bread, you can do without.

I do not want to complain, but I hope that what we pay for the umpteenth time, is the latest surcharge, I believe that another tax such as this, we could not bear it.

Hello everyone,
While I'm waiting for my wheels to get painted I've started working on ordering some bolts and various fasteners, and as per the pic below I've just started to machine up the Billet Triple Clamps. I'm just putting in some pockets into the underside to try and shed some of the weight. Not that it really matters, but while I'm waiting....

G'day, everyone.
OK, it's been a while since and update, so this is what I've been up to.
My Yamaha TZ250GP wheels arrived back from my painters, we went with a Metallic gold colour that we thought may well match the bike best, we finished them in a satin instead of a gloss. I think they'll be alright. I have to install the new bearings and spacers and some new rubber, then that's another job done.
While I was waiting I started to modify the triple clamps, these had a welded boss on the lowers that acted on the frames lock stops, I machined these off and turned up some cylindrical bobbins to do the same job, hopefully my calcs are right and that's all I have to do, but if not I now have the ability to increase/decrease the diameter of the bobbins to adjust the steering lock. I think it'll work out ok.
The bike came with an assortment of fasteners, some ok, some not so. So the decision was made to purchase some Pro-Bolt hex flanged bolts in titanium. Well these turned up last week, and look excellent, nice stuff.
One of the reasons to go for ti was I wanted whatever fasteners I used to stay bright over time and ti do just that, the weight saving is just a bonus! The other reason was I wanted hex flanged bolts as they're so easy to use with T wrenches (a throw back to my Motocross days), and I've got them for the front engine mounts too as this gives better clearance for the frame mounts and stops the paint getting knocked off buy sockets etc...
OK that's it for now.

G'day, Everyone.
Well, I haven't forgotten you all, I've been hunting down lots of parts for my TT2 Racebike and I think it's time I fill everyone in where I'm at right now.
First off. I had planned to use the front suspension that came with the bike bike when I bought it, (It had Yamaha FZR1000 Forks with Billet Triple Clamps mated to Yamaha TZ250GP wheels and Disc rotors), Now this is a great light weight and wide wheel set, 17"x3.5 front & 17"x4.5 Rear, and this would have given me a great choice in slicks and wets too!! So I prepped all the wheels and had them blasted new bearings and two pack painted and cleaned and prepped the forks and Triples, all good to go.

When for some reason I just couldn't put it all together onto my bike as I started to fall into the trap of trying to build a better mouse trap!! :lol: And I had to have a really good think about what am I trying to build here, as I'm slowly turning into a middle aged family man building the fastest TT2 for historic racing was getting less important and building a period classic racebike that I can take to the track with the family was making more sense. So I bit the bullet and have decided to sell off the Yamaha FZR front end and TZ wheels and keep the bike as period as possible. Time will tell if this is a mistake, seriously hope not.

I managed to secure some 18" Magnesium Campagnolo Race wheels from a guy who knew another guy who knew someone else!!!! lol.. So that really got the ball rolling on trying to bring this TT2 back a period race bike. And another bonus in using the Campy wheelset is that Carlo's fantastic Disc brake rotors bolt right up!! Lovely!! :D

So, guess what turned up on my door step today? (See pics below). :)

What you should be looking at is a new pair of replica Marzocchi Magnesium 35mm forks and Triple Clamps from Sports Motorcycles. Honestly Bike Porn, no other words for it!!! :shock:

The quality is awesome, Glyn Robinson is a very talented guy with a keen eye for detail, and it shows in his work, I've just bolted the front end in tonight and it all slipped together with such ease I'm still giggling like a 14 year old schoolgirl... :D
I also found some NOS 35mm Verlicchi Clip-ons as well (Thanks Ian Gowanloch), so that fitted the bill nicely, in one night I've now got the front end sorted. Honestly you should see my grin, One very happy little Vegimite indeed!!!!

I'll post some more pics of other parts that have arrived very shortly.

And if one of the members here wants the Yamaha FZR/TZ frontend please email me and we can work out a deal.
