On my version of the wiring plate, I do agree with you to add another bend tab to attach the push button starter you see above. Only, I also need to make room for the original starter solenoid. Any recommendations? Thanks, Bill Hi Bill, the CAD program is a Mac version of ViaCAD. It's actually very good. This version came with the Mac when I changed from Windows to Mac as a purchase incentive. It also does 3D and imports & exports from/to many other programs. Folks, not much is happening on the build front....except for the retaining wall outside! No, we are waiting on some club tools loaned to assist with dismantling the engine. Somebody had knocked off the alternator locking tool, hence the CAD file created to make one. Other than that.... Cheers, Steve Attachment:

Folks, just a small update to this.... The primary gear is proving to be stubborn.... it's not budging. So, I've called for the big gun gear puller. Also, does anyone know where I can source another one? It's missing a fair chunk of teeth. As soon as the cases are split apart, the sooner I can set up the rear swing-arm droop angle.... Now... where is that hammer...... |

Steve, its customary for rebuilders of the Pantah engines to use thread-locking compound between the primary pinion and the shaft as well as around the woodruff key. Essentially what Carlo says (Bless Him!) is correct, so just do a s follows: Once your gear extractor is in place, start to heat the pinion with a narrow-flame torch. As it heats up increase the torque on the extractor-tool bolt. Once it all seems to start to cook, torque the extractor down a bit more and then give the extractor tool a good WELT with a decent-sized hammer. The primary gear SHOULD jump off the crankshaft and fly perhaps a meter or two across your workshop!!! Job Done! Poison, you legend! I gave it all the necessary welting and it did indeed fly off across the garage! Luckily, I didn't eyeball it during the heating/extraction process! This forum and it's members are such a great source of knowledge, advice, support and friendship! Great work. I didn't realise the gear is tapered on the shaft. I thought it was simply keyed on the shaft. So, we are back on track to continue to dismantle the engine cases. Any other advice to take heed? Cheers, Steve |
