Post subject:  Alu Swingarms??

Would anyone know about where reproduction-spec. alloy swinging arms are built to fit the TT2 frame? Footrest hangers need to clear the arms close to the swingarm pivot.

I have an original Verlicchi which fits and functions perfectly but just try to find more like that one. Mine is TT1 type cantilever with squaretube bracing instead of early type roundtube brace material.

Thanks,

Fran

Well Fran, you bring up a great point. I don't know of anyone reproducing that alloy swingarm. Even in Japan, where they seem to reproduce tons of stuff. It seems many of the repro frames have the clearance for the wider Verlicchi swingarm found on the F1. DM in Italy, Old Racing Spares and a few others make repro arms similar to the Verlicchi. Steve Munros been listing an original one for quite some time. These are expensive and the narrow ones are hard to find if not impossible, and when you find them they usually need restoration! The market for these is limited so no one is racing to start making repros. Maybe Carlo Leoncini in Italy who is making all the repro parts could help? This stuff was made in such small quantities back in the day, they were race only parts, not production bike stuff. I know this didn't help much, but I guess with this Forum we can unearth some more parts, as Steve Munro was lucky enough to do. Lou

Thanks Lou,

I wish you hadn't explained that so well -- I now have concerns about running my original alloy s/a knowing it's essentially not replacable. Guess I'll have to find myself an SV650 for a trackday machine. Just gave my head a shake and decided to keep going along in blissful ignorance riding my unquestioned and uncompromised favourite ride ever. Bumping on up to 17 inch 3.5/5.5 made superb tyres easily available and has transformed my TT2 750 into the best handling bike I've yet ridden. Bugger the Zuke, obviously.

OK, but an alloy swingarm for the original type Verlicchi cantilever frame isn't asking for the moon so maybe the way to go is a widened ChroMo steel one.

Also wonder did Pierobon actually produce the alloy swinger listed for TT2 in their earlier catalogue iterations?

With best regards from Winterland,
Fran

Well Fran, you should put away that swingarm if the originality factor will matter to you in the future. Chrome/moly was the soluton even back in the day. Albert Bold who is well known with MV Augusta collecters and is a top notch welder/machinist/fabricator, built a wide chrome/moly arm for Jimi Adamos TT2 with an eccentric adjuster. There was another guy building 'moly' arms back then as well but i have not been able to find him. I think Albert would still make some but have no idea on price. Maybe this Forum can help us guage interest. Quantity always brings down the price.

Hi Lou,

Great picture, breathtaking actually. I had no idea that a ChroMo swinger had been used, what year would you guess? Judging from Reno's hair colour I'd guess 1985? A steel arm would be stiffer and more durable as well, I'm liking this and will keep trying. I prefer the originality in outward appearance and implied character of the Seely type adjusters so will see what can be done about modifying an early type steel unit to allow a 5.5 rear.

Hello Fran. Is that what you are looking for? I am. I call it a TT1 arm, but I know that is not technically correct; those also look different. These show up on fleaBay now and then. Lou might recognize one of these photos. Last one went for over $750 out of the land of beer, sausages and suspenders.

Chro Mo sounds like the ticket given that I just sold my last aluminum swing arm on Friday.
