Post subject:  Engine mount bolts

I notice on the Verlicchi TT2 frame I have that both right side engine mounting lugs are threaded.
So for the rear mounting it's simple, one long bolt from the left side which will screw into the right lug on the frame.
For the front left mount, again a single bolt which will screw into the threaded engine mount.
But what about the front right? Both the frame lug and engine mounting point are threaded, whilst I haven't tried to mount the engine yet, I can't see how both threads are going to line up exactly.
I guess the simple solution would be to remove the threads in the front engine mounts and use a single bolt from the left side to screw into the frame......or am I missing something obvious LOL.
Thanks in advance for your help guys, this forum is just the best.

I admittedly don't know anything about the TT2 frames but the setup would seem to be for a later engine with the front mounting boss 1 piece across the engine unlike the earlier 750 cases that have the two threaded bosses and a gap between them. A one piece arrangement would be preferable as it is more rigid and allows the frame to be clamped better. Many 750 cases have been broken at the front mounts in crashes and I think the gap also contributes to the cases cracking around the jackshaft bearing on the right side. I suppose you could just drill the threads out of the right side and use two bolts. Or machine the cases and make a spacer to weld in between the bosses on the case and clamp it all together with a through bolt. Depends on how hard the machine is intended to be used.

Hello Joe,
My frame was similar but the thread in the frame is very thin. (only the thickness of the frame)
I left the rear as it was and added a nut to make sure the rear was tight.
I used an old 3/8 drive socket that fitted snuggly into the round nut recess, welded up the hex end then drilled and threaded the weld. Then you end up with a 3/8 square female socket that's a nut on the other end. Use a 3/8 square drive to tighten the nut. (hope that makes sense)

I removed the burs that looked like a thread from the front right mount.

Hi Joe, I usually drill the frame boss on the right side and use the same arraingement as the left side. My NCR bikes are done this way. It is probably done this way to fasten the bosses to a welding fixture during fabrication of the frame. It is also done to make this Forum more entertaining! Good Luck. Lou

Thanks guys for your help, I might just go for the simplest solution which is just to remove the thread from the frame and have two mounting bolts up front.
The bike's not going to be used hard and I don't intend crashing anytime soon LOL so it should be adequate for me.
