Here are the new caps made by Glyn Robinson, of the new "Sports Motorcycles" in the UK. They are cnc'd and then blasted to soften the look a bit, so they look more vintage than the photo on the site. 8mm tap holes, and bearing already installed. I think $180 a set is good deal. MikeV

I was thinking of getting a set made up by a chap I know in Poland who is making a couple of bits and bobs for me now! I bet he could do it cheaper than Sports Motorcycles :P

I have noticed on my original SS cam end caps there is a small hole on the inside which allows oil to get behind the bearing. And on these Sports ones and the original race ones the oil supply is from the outside, does this external oil supply come from the Oil cooler?

Yes, George, these are for the external lines directly from a cooler. Usually the race engines had the stock oil supply lines through the cases/cylinders/heads blocked off. NCR heads have them blocked. And Steve says the flow is also restricted, because the valve train gets too much oil in stock form. For me that explains why the locating dowels for oil supply have much smaller holes in recent years. Lou and Steve will know more about this than me, and others will chime in I am sure. MikeV

Cheers Mike!

er.... is that a bad thing?.... mechanical components whizzing whirring and whacking up and down at very high velocities getting too much oil!

The stock F1/pantah/alley has a restictor in the feed right abover the oil filter in the form of a drift pin. The diameter is .046 inches. When bypassing directly to heads from coolers I use a .046" restrictor directly on each head feed in the banjo bolt. This increases the supply (theortically double). Too much (non restricted) oil turns in to foam and cannot get back down to the sump. Not good!
