Been stressing out over the last two days (in the blazing sun!) figuring out the wiring loom which was custom made for me, but its all clicking into place. I am not sure which wires go to the rear brake switch and which go to the neutral light. But I have two sets of bullet connectors to choose from, and I guess that when I power it up, they will either work or power the wrong warning light...easily rectified. I do however have a black and a red wire, in the same sleeve without any connectors on the end. Now when I first designed the bits and bobs I had a sidestand warning light switch, but I binned that idea. Not sure if this loom was made before or after I binned it The loom Looks like a badly made birds nest in some places so I have been cable tying it all to the frame to see the fit. I have tried to follow the original bike where possible.

MikeV Hi Mike, yes its a Thersby frame, bought it from Roy when he started the F1 frames, I had seen his TT2 frame and asked if he could make the F1 and he told me he had just started doing them. Mine is frame #23 The exhaust system was made locally here in CZ, in stainless finish, and I sent it to Scotland for ceramic coating.

Bought yet another set of M1R's (thats five sets now!! ) but these are the pukka race version (Bimota I think!) however I have now decided that I wont use the Marvic Streamline's when I get her running... 35 year old Magnesiums...mmm not good methinks. I do have a set of rather spiffing Marchesinis... but.. 20mm axles! I am almost sure that I can get bearings to fit the Marchesinis but with a 17mm ID If not I guess I need to get some sleeves made up:?: In the meantime I have these minging 750ss brembo wheels on.

HELP!!!
I tried a custom wiring loom for the first time. But I must have messed up somewhere as one of the negative wires from the battery overheated and melted the sleeving... smoke city, made my boy almost Kack himself!
I had a wiring loom made for me ages back with two leads for the battery (obviously but bear with me), A positive with an attached small diameter wire with a bullet connector. And a negative with an attached small diameter wire with a ring connector.
I attached the Positive lead, along with the lead coming from the starter motor (I presume, its a large diameter lead from the front of the engine case... on a 1993 900SS engine) to the starter solenoid.
I connected this Positive lead to the battery positive terminal.
I know the small diameter wire on the negative lead should be earthed on the frame but I forgot to do this, I connected the main lead to the starter solenoid.
But when I tired to connect this main lead to the Negative terminal on the battery, it flashed a display of sparks and the smaller wire got red hot, melting the plastic cover.
what have I dont wrong? Have I wired the starter solenoid wrong? or is it becuase I didn't earth it with the smaller wire? or something entirely different?
Any help and advice is, beleive me, greatly appreciated, as Electrickery is a form of sorcery of which I know little!

The term “main lead” confuses me. But it simply sounds like you connected to a “hot” terminal, and then touched that to ground - or the ground/negative side of the battery. No big wire, 6- to 8-guage, should go from the solenoid to the negative side of the battery. Perhaps a small ground wire is needed, or not, just depends on the solenoid design. Did you mistakenly connect to a spade connector that was part of the battery-to-solenoid circuit; sometimes these are used to send power elsewhere. A photo of the damage site might help. MikeV

I'm with Mike, please send us some pictures of what you are using for a solenoid. Also, I find when making these connections, I make sure I can quickly remove a wire to avoid that meltdown. Just touching a grounded wire to a live wire will make it spark violently, then you know something is wrong and don't run the risk of melting wires and traumatizing your son! Lol. Lou
