1988 or 1989 I raced (or better : was on the same circuit) with Marc Granie on a factory TT1 and Roger Marshall on the Quantel at Francorchamps. Only Eric VD on one of the first real Superbike 851 was able to follow those guys. Granie lapped me at Blanchimont just before taking a win. Think Roger was second, Eric third, A Montjuic fourth and Richard Swallow fifth. So I never really heard the Quantel go by The TT1 did Great times ciao ducadini |

Thanx for posting these up and the education...... On the Quantel Cosworth's, I did not realize that this was a resurrected/warmed over Norton/Cosworth engine from the 70's, right?? I wonder how many of these engines exist today? Clay |

Hi guys, more great photos from Bjorn, and again thanks for the effort. I didn't take many photos, but here are a few I fished on the internet, long ago. I was always interested in that Cosworth. Paul Lewis kicked ass on that Quantel at Daytona in 1986. Believe it or not I saw one at at the Lime Rock Vintage festival in Connecticut over 25 years ago, in Challenge guise. What a shock that was. Oh, and the photo shows that there may not be that many left? Middle photo is the Norton Challenge bike. I think the Quantel was an Exactweld chassis. Ally subframes bolted to a stressed member motor. I think the tubular chassis where Harris. Lou

Quote: That is a great memory! Where are your photos from those days? /Björn Since I was out racing and only had a Praktina reflex camera (nothing auto focus/lighting/speed) my girlfriend never made any really good pics. I have some statics though, stashed somewhere in storage. Another two months and my new "carriere" begins and I have plenty of time I thought the Quantel was lost in the fire at the National museum ? Being stored between magnesium wheels and engines isn't very good when it get's hot. ciao ducadini |
