The parking lot at Daytona, I think it was 1984. Not a bad pair of racebikes! They brought them from Chile to race BOTT. I'm glad she stayed in the USA!

Hello ducttf1, how does this happen?, bringing a bike or bikes to another country, racing, and leaving without them. Iv'e read of manx's,guzzi's and the like being left in Australia after a top european rider had travelled over to do a race or two, but that was when transport was slow. There must be some good stories associated with some of the bikes on this site?

Hi Graeme, I actually made a mistake! The bike was from Peru and the owner ended up living in Chile. Yes it is an interesting story. The original owner was from Bologna and was friends with Nepoti and Carrachi. They first built him the bevel NCR and he and his family moved to Peru for business reasons. It is my understanding that he also had a TT2. When in Peru he was involved somehow with the FIM. His son Gianni, and another young rider Mitch Velickovich campaigned the bikes in South America. Mitch moved to Florida to attended college and they brought the bikes up to race BOTT. Once there they did well, with Gianni getting, a I think, a 13 place finish against all the big names in Bott racing at the time. Not bad for a young kid who never raced at the track! When they were finished a collector made them an offer on the bevel they could not refuse and the original owner was going to sell the TT1 as well. Mitch being a racer and enthusiast did what any of us would have done and used his college tuition money to buy the TT! He raced it that summer at Moroso park and the like and realized he would have to start college in the fall and had no money to pay for it, so he sold the TT to a friend of mine in 1988. My buddy Rick Goldman then a young racer brought the bike to long time racer John Long and he confirmed that it was a 'real' NCR. Rick raced it about 5 times with 3 wins and 2 podiums and then had to move to New Mexico for employment. It sat in storage for many years till he decided to sell it to me. I am forever grateful. I am very excited about Barber this year because Mitch is coming and has invited the original owner Giampaulo Barbieri to come see the bike from Chile. Sadly his son passed away and when he heard the bike still existed he was brought to tears. Sorry to go on so long but the people behind the bikes make these little jewlels even more interesting. It is terrific that we can preserve these 'moments in time'. Picture of Gianni at Daytona. Lou

Thanks Lou, that's a good story. The history of these things is very interesting for us mortals who will never own such a machine. Looks like Gianni isn't far from the front tucking in the picture? Is the last picture Giannis father? Is this a Moto Martin? (honda) It's good that these bikes and history are being looked after pasionatly and used as they should and not locked away.We are only caretakers for the next generation. Graeme
