Hi Graeme

i use 78 mm stroke and 90 mm bore . i made a new liner with 95 mm outside diam and 93.5 mm where the liner goes into the crankcase . liner is a modified Peugeot diesel engine item .
about the only one with a collar big enough to suit a Ducati

i weld a plate into the l.h. crankcase and turn a sleeve for the bearing that also goes into the
reinforcing plate

Thank you Eldert, from what I can see from your picture these are pre 74 cases which had the 2 case bolts either side of the cylinder hole exposed when looking down into the case? Later 74 cases had these 2 bolts spaced wider so when looking down through the cylinder hole you can't see the bolts. I think the pre 74 cases also had 1 smaller main bearing. Is that the side you and Carlo have strengthened? And used a larger main bearing? Graeme

the smaller main bearing is on the r.h.crankcase . Ducati went to a bigger main bearing after 450 engine
number 453509 . so i think that must have happened in late 70 / early 71

i have to slim down the case bolts in the middle in order to get the 93.5 mm liner in the case and put in the bolts before i put on the barrel

i like to use the very late type cases but they are hard to find so i use any case with the bigger r.h. bearing

I've only ever had the late case bikes, all 462--- , with the bolts spaced 110mm centres. What do you do to get 78mm crank? Offset bore the crank pin? Graeme

offset bore the crankpin thats correct . i use a straight 34 mm bigendpin from a Yamaha and use a
145 mm Yamaha rod from a XT 500 . i use a Paso type piston with a 18 mm wristpin high up in the pistonskirt

later on we made a new crank with full circle flywheels to accept the Yamaha parts

I used a Honda 500XL rod with similar big and little end dimensions, it was 1mm longer than a standard rod, but this is a road bike. The singles here are in another class. I have many more questions,,,,,,,,

the old 79/80 Honda XL use the same 34 / 42 mm bigendbearing . lenght is 141 mm .
the only thing is the small end is 21 mm so you have to make a bushing and use a piston with a 20 mm wristpin . Prox still sells these rodkits .

i use this rod in my short stroke 6 speed 350 Ducati

Hello, I use the aluminum in silica and the income from a solid cylinder barrel, and then cover in NICASIL, up to a displacement of 498cc. 92mm piston. Stroke 75.

Cubic capacity 518 cc:, piston 92mm, 78mm stroke, shaft drive shaft offset.

Crankshaft, machined from solid, titanium connecting rods.

This is a good way to strengthen the left crankcase.
