Great picture Gary! Looks like a TT2 to the right? Who ran number 3 back then? Lou

Hi Gary,

Those are great pictures. Because of the bike I'm working on presently, I'm pretty sure the #52 bike to the left is an early 851. If it is, I think the soonest the year could be is 1988. Are you sure about the year? I could easily be wrong about what bike that is, there isn't much of it shown.

On the F1 there are two vintage stickers that I'm trying to find for the ex-Adamo 851 I'm working on. The "F and L Racing Fuel" and "Alpinestars" ones. If anybody has even something I could borrow that a good sticker maker could scan to make replicas, I would be very grateful

Bill

Hey Bill, I thought I gave you the F and L fuel stickers. I have them if you need them. I actually got them for your bike and spoke to the owner of FL fuels. Nice guy and had fond memories of Reno. Lou

Of course you are correct Lou. This is not the first time you've remembered what's stashed at my house better than me. Thank you again. It's just the old style Alpinestars sticker I need........right?

It could be the Grand Prix class race from 1988

Hi guys,
Not sure but wasn't #3 Jerry Wood on a 900SS and #52 Kurt Liebman on 851 in the ProTwins GP class? Duane Summers was in the Modified Production Class (yellow plates). I'd guess 1989.

Correction: #3 was John Long in the GP class.

I bought the #87 bike from duane and Cagiva North America in late 88 or early 89 when Duane switched to the 851. I still have and ride it every day, now that the ignition problem has been fixed - thanks everyone.

I am finishing up a rebuild and am getting ready for paint. I think I will paint it back to the Red and Silver colors. I don't have the original bodywork, raced for 2 years after buying, but I do have OE. I still need an OE chin fairing - Hint Hint-

I had to buy a set of cases from Jimmy Adamo after buying the bike because the original cases cracked at the lower pulley.

The frame numbers are not normal as the are ZDM3AAL9G8751414 and I cannot find them in any database. Cagiva NA was doing some weird things back then.

Pictures to come soon

Henry, The frame on the #87 bike is not from a Laguna Seca. Your frame number ZDM3AAL9G875141 seems to be incorrect as it has only 16 digits,(Missing a 3, and has an 8 where there should be a B. Might your frame number be ZDM3AA3L9GB751414? If so, then the bike is an early 1986 F1b with the Bosch igntion system. Does your bike have the Bosch ignition? All Laguna Secas have Kokusan Ignition systems.

All Laguna Seca's were built in 1987, and have an H as the 10th digit of the VIN, where yours has a G (indicating that it is a 1986).

All 1987 Laguna Seca frames have straight tube exhaust/footpeg hangers that are welded to the seat/tailsection area, where in your photo it looks like the frame has the curved exhaust hanger welded to the footpeg area that an 1986 F1b Frame would have.

Your frame number is also the earliest 1986 F1b Bosch ignition frame that I have on record, now ranging from 751414 to 751494, which also agrees with Ian Falloons estimate of 84 1986 Bosch F1b's imported into the USA.

Brian Brown
