Ok, new tyres from Gowanlocs in Sydney, Shinko brand. All feedback so far from the shop is positive. I haven't actually ridden my bike as yet with the new rubber as the new drive chain only just landed on my door step but, am keen for a ride, maybe tomorrow. She is looking pretty now.

Good news for all F1 users !! I have recently fitted a pair of 16" development race compound tyres from Avon. They are the Avon Roadrider series tread pattern and are currently fitted an 750 F1 race bike over here for evaluation. The results are very encouraging and in my opinion certainly the best 16" tyre available. I am sure these will be commercially available if not already, then very soon from any Avon retailer (That is if the dealer can be interested enough to contact Avon in the UK and find out).

i was just cruising the avon site and although i couldn't see anything about 16" race tyres, i did put paso into the fitment and it gave me 130/70zr16 3d ultra sport front and 150/80zr16 storm 3d x-m rear. not sure how they'd go, both being taller.
glyn - are the race tyres radials?

Sorry for the delay fella's, a bit busy coming up to Philip island.
The 16" race compound Avon's are the road rider pattern. I believe they are what is known as a bias ply construction.
The sizes for the race compound are 120/80 V16 front and 150/80 V16 rear. These have been developed for the FJ1100 brigade racing in post classics. The rear has a visibly taller than expected side wall to it, resulting in a similar rolling radius to an 18" AM23. This is clearly a huge benefit to the lack of ground clearance usually associated with running 16" tyres.
I am currently using 18" wheels on my F1 so they are fitted to a customers 750F1 race bike here who is using the standard marvic wheels and is more than pleased with the tyres.
They may well not show in the Avon catalogue but should be available from the competition department.
