Hi,

I just received some parts I purchased from a supplier in England complete with shipping. A couple of weeks later I received a bill from UPS logistics for $77.00 in customs duties and brokerage charges. I've ordered things before and never had this happen. Has anyone else out there experienced this.

That started a year or two ago in Canada, usually it is with dhl, ups for real small packages.

I have always found it to be a hit-and-miss thing. Between individuals using the PO it seldom happens in the US. But when companies who use certain carriers to pick up from them and deliver then the customs fee can show up. And, sometimes later and unexpectedly. Bigger boxes or expensive one will attract attention. MikeV

I'm trying not to collect too many enemies these days, so if I owe them the money, I suppose I'll send it. It seems that, as the "importer", I am ultimately responsible. From what I've read, this kind of thing needs to be hammered out with your supplier in advance. My understanding is that you need to insist on that your order be in writing as "delivered duty paid" - which I did not do. It's been quite an experience dealing with this supplier but I'll save that for some other post.

Have always been nailed with a brokerage fee from U-Piss(me off) FedEx is a bit better and I like postal services the best. As said earlier the customs fees are a hit and miss thing. The cheaper the item the less likely, also depends on what kind of mood the custom agents are in at the time.
