Those sure are purty bolts on that thing, Steve. Must have cost a small fortune.
Recently I tapped into the front of an 800 engine to install the nut for Kokusan pickup wires. The circle is still cast in in the front. Used smaller drills to center and start, and worked my way up. Then went to the dremel tool to get the proper diameter. Finally the big 'ole tap was used. It was spooky at first, but it went in plumb. Surprised myself.
Thanks for the photos. Now if Gary would reciprocate.

Steve and MikeV,
I'm up for the challenge, but don't know if my bike can ever be as pretty as Steve's. (I have to figure out the picture loading process and upload the before and in progress pictures.)
I am still struggling with what the bikes end use will be (street and some track or mostly track). My racing buddies are really trying to talk me into coming back out and racing some.
Steve, Any problems with those aluminum bolts? A friend was running those on his race bike and had a lot of problems with breaking them, freezing in place or leaks. What kind of paint did you use on the motor, looks good. I had stripped the paint off the heads to try and get better heat dissipation, but not sure if it helped or not.

Palmer Mike: I thought of that when I hit the "desperate" stage, and then I saw the 900SS cover andf thought it would be cool to get the leads away from the exhaust pipe. Worked out well I think. Gary: That was my first try with big, hi-rez pictures. See the "Upload Attachment" tab below the Post Reply Edit box. Pick the images off your hard drive, Add the file et Voila! I use DupliColor Engine Enamel - Lo Gloss Black. With the engine assembled on the engine stand and the shiny bits masked-off, I do two applications of laquer thinner (spray, blow-off, repeat) and then put a portable baseboard heater under the engine and a moving blanket over it to pre-heat it to 90-100 degrees. Spray a light coat and bake again. Do this two more times. They're thin coats, so they don't have an impact on heat dissipation like the factory finish. I've never had an issue with aluminum fasteners, although I use Locktite blue so I don't have to over-torque and to prevent seizing.

Thanks, Gary - glad you like the yellow bike so far.. How about some work in progress pics on yours?
The bodywork came back from Cris today, so I took a few minutes to bolt on the fender and put the tank and seat in place..

Lookin' good, Gary. I'm really liking the swing arm. You're not that far behind me - I still have the electrical and exhaust to tackle. I hope you're planning on Mosport.. Paul (who bought my old bike) can lap Mosport as fast as me and that means the three of us could have an exciting 3 days..
BTW, what's the cush drive pattern on the Yellow Bike?
