Frame cracks, that is.

I finally sorted out the fuel taps and noticed this.

I suppose there is no easy fix, no? :roll:

There is always something to do with vintage bikes...

That is a nasty crack. What are your plans? Repair, replace? Maybe someone has a spare F1 frame lying around? Lou

First I will show it to a local bike repair shop that I trust (and one of the owners knows vintage Ducs) and see if they can do anything.

I wonder why I did not see it before...

if you want to throw away your Ducati frame, send it to Carlo Leoncini in Italy.
Sink the crack with a fine point cutter and weld in a tig.
Then give gassss

This will force you to disassemble everything and do that frame right —- with a new paint job. Who knows what you will find. Think how proud you will be as you learn more about your bike. MikeV

Luckily F1 is about the easiest bike in the world to take the frame off. No easy solution, whip frame off, TIG weld, but get good welder, I would slit the frame at bottom of the crack, use first tack weld to pull the frame tube straight and look for some place behind the weld in corner of frame..... to weld in triangular brace to strengthen the area.

Looks like crack has been there a while

Yeah.....thats too bad....you better inspect the rest of the frame to be sure something else isnt out of whack. Anyone know, is that a spot thats prone to cracking because of the added suspension forces in that area, possibly a motor mount issue causing xtra stress ??

I would say that crack formed because the weld didn't even come close to "catching" the top frame rail. I've drilled a small hole at the end of a crack in wind screens and plastic body work as well as sheet metal to stop the progression of a crack. I'm with Carlo on this one. Grind the crack and old weld out and weld it properly. One other thing. Are F1 frames and swing arms chrome moly?

Yes, according to the fellow at the shop that I trust. He said the problem is finding someone who knows how to deal with chromaloy. Once I get the frame separated, I will look for someone who knows how to work with it: My friend suggested finding someone who builds bicycle frames.
