Greetings,

I'm ready to get tires for my the F1 I am putting back together. Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. I'm not smart enough not to try to relive my youth on occasion so I would value traction over longevity.

Thanks,

Gene

Hi Gene,

I am quite in the same situation as you. On my 750F1, I have installed Pirelli Sport Demon tires of the following dimensions :

120/80 V16 and 150/80 V16

I was told by 2 or 3 persons that they stick very well to the pavement. But, I have yet to test them.

Yet may get other good advices on this forum.

Gilles,

Thanks for the input. I am also looking into the Bridgestone BT 45 series or Goldentyre, if I could find a source. I miss the days when Dunlop K-81's were almost always a good bet.

I like the Bridgestone BT45 tires. The have enough traction to achieve lean angles that cause the centerstand and fairing lowers to drag on the ground, even with the rear end of the bike raised up with a Fox shock. I am going to put my sidestand back on before I lever the bike off of the ground.

GOLDENTYRE!! FUNZIONA!!!

Hello Friends, these tires work quite well, if I have to be picky, tends to widen the front, because the front tire is very wide and flat, I believe that with this type of tire front rim would need a more 'tight, so that the tire being narrower would be better through the bends. I hope I was understood. Sorry for my English. Hello from Italy. Carlo

Carlo,

Thanks to all for the input. I am sure that the BT-45's and the Sport Demons would work, but I would really like to get a tire with a softer compound, if I can. The 16" front on the Honda Interceptor I raced in the mid 80's had an unsettling tendency to push so I want as much grab as I can get. I won't put many miles on the bike and hope to do some track days with it, so longevity is not an issue. I can't find any specific information about the Goldentyres on line, but I am assuming that they are more "sport" than "touring". I found a link to the Goldentyre rep in the US so I will so where that gets me.

Thanks all,

Gene Danyo

Anyone interested in Goldentyre - I spoke to South Mountain Cycle Shop in PA today (717-432-4997) They need to bring in several sets of tires at one time. I expect to hear from them within a day or so to let me know if they have enough to place an order with the distributor. If anyone else is looking, now would be a good time to call them. I will keep you all posted.

the golden tyres are 16" radials for the later bikes (f1 specials and pasos) with wide 16" wheels. afaik they don't make cross ply tyres for the f1 as such.

from memory avon make the softest cross ply tyres - http://www.avonmotorsport.com/historic- ... motorcycle or http://www.avonmotorsport.com/historic- ... motorcycle

see what the classic racing people are using in the stock sizes.

The Avon bias race tires are great, but I wouldn't put them on a street bike. You could be in for a nasty surprise at the first corner you come to on a chilly morning. I've always liked Avons, both bias and radial. This time around I tried set of Bridgestone BT45's on my bevel, and they are excellent too. You probably can't go wrong nowadays with any name brand tire that comes in a size appropriate for the F1 front.
