Post subject:  750 Sport pistons and head variations

Hi Engine specialists,

here are two (1988) Ducati 750 Sport engines that I have just opened up.

the first 4 pics seem to show a standard 'open head' with a flat piston; the second 4 a slightly domed piston with a very reduced head area.

i was wondering if anyone could shed some light....I thought all sport engines were of the first type.

The first four photos, as posted, are what I have seen on several Sport engines; flat pistons and bathtub combustion chamber. The second set looks like Paso heads (hemi, like an F1), but maybe with some aftermarket pistons. MikeV

Look at the date casting on each.

What will the castings tell me? They cant be F1 as the head is reversed. Has someone changed the head on one of them?
I am not familiar with Paso heads. could one of the engines be Paso?

Yeah, the Paso was basically an F1 with the reversed head on the vertical cylinder.
