has anyone ever seen one with a hole like this?

i think it has twisted. it was quite hard to get out. not seized as such, just required quite a lot of force to turn.

I'd bet it was made that way. If you had twisted it that much the case threads have to be buggered and the hole[s] would have fracture lines on the edges. I know things are different down under but how do you work having to put things UP to sit on the workbench? Is everything upside down there?

That must make crashes interesting! Do you fall onto the bike when you highside?

i got a new strainer, and it was tight, but not as tight as the original. but i couldn't run a 22 x 1.5 tap through the case thread as it just wouldn't start. and i couldn't run a die over the strainer thread as the plastic strainer is bigger than the id of my die.

bit of a clusterfuck all round.

Maybe running those strainer threads under a softer wire wheel on a bench grinder for a while might make them screw in and out easier.
