Post subject:  New cylinders and pistons

Hi, the donor engine of my 750 F1 project is a 1986 PASO 750.

Now I need to change cylinders and pistons... any knows which other bike model is 100% compatible?

It seems that a 750SS will work, no matter which year?

Any advice is really appreciated, thanks!

Oscariki,

The piston and cylinder from the Paso or SS750 will work but you need to trim the top cooling fin on the cylinder for the exhaust flange on the F1 cylinder head to clear the cylinder. The piston may or may not have to rotated 180 degrees. The piston would only need to be rotated if the piston has valve relief pockets. If using hi compression pistons for a Paso or SS750 then you rotate the vertical piston for the valve pocket clearance.

Oscariki,

One thing I forgot to mention, there may be a difference in the oil passage between the cylinder and head. The F1s and early exhaust forward heads have the o-ring pocket located in the cylinder heads, the new engines with the intakes in the V have the o-ring pocket in the top of the cylinder. There are many ways to deal with this but what I do is use an 8mm flat washer and JB Weld to fill in the o-ring pocket on the cylinder. If your running exterior oil lines to the heads and plug the oil passages on both sides, this isn't much of an issues but if not, I have found this to work well. Good luck.
