Just curious if any of the F1 variants ever had the engine numbers pin stamped onto the lower left hand cover?
Thanks....

Well, the 750 Sport case has an area in the left bottom with numbers. Every F derivative I have seen has the near the left rear motor mount. Must be very special. MikeV

Hi Mike...
Nothing special, just a set of cases being sold as F1. I was thinking Ducati moved the numbers down onto the left side, after the F1's went out of production. Suspect the cases are early large pin 750SS items. Regarding the Sport model, I came across these cases while researching the origin of the other. Supposed to be off a 1989 Sport.
Regards...

My F1 has a plate with the same number as the factory invoice riveted to the case on the left rear

So all this discussion I thought I would check my f1s
I was surprised to see a plate riveted to the case it looks like over top of where the usual vin is.
I will pull the carb off tomorrow and get a photo of it.
It is also not zdm?
Paul

Whoa... Didn't see that coming. So frames and engines were tagged over.

WOW!

I knew that US models had tabs welded over the factory chassis number on the head stem. But I never knew they did the same on the engines...

Assuming that the welded tab on the head stem has 17 digits to confirm with the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) standard this would make sense...

However I don't understand the thinking by doing the same on the engine... Is there a similar standard for engine numbers?

I am 99% confident that these details only applied to US models.

Yeah....it doesnt make sense to me either. In the US I get the 17 digit frame tag issue. But the engine numbers dont match the frame vin# anyway. Then it appears the engine tags are inconsistently used. In early 80's didnt Ducati go to the ZDM prefix for everything...Italy-Ducati-Motorcycle??
