well M1R front end is in and the brake callipers lined up, new problem speedo runs backward.

Dash is of unknown (I cant remember origin) my thoughts are that it is off 400 or something that has the speedo drive on the other side, any thoughts on how to change it apart from replacing it.

Best regards Marc

You have the problem pegged Marc. Not sure what side your speedo wheel drive is on now, but a (simple?) swap to the other side will work. If the cable was coming off the top of the axle, like on the F1, then placing it in the bottom left will work. You may have to drill a small hole in the wheel hub, and dink around with axle spacers and the cable holder, but it works. Did this to my F1. Then when you want to sell your bike you swap it back for a while to lower the mileage —-ha ha. MikeV

Reread and looked at the post after the second cup of coffee. Just reverse everything I said. You have original F1 speedo, I think, and left side speedo drive placement.

They are out there Cal, from the 400s, and maybe the 888s. The 400s run off the right side of the wheel, And the later engines off the left. I have one or two. MikeV

I am fairly certain that the. 851/888s has 10K tachs, and maybe for racing they went to an 11K version. I suspect a 4-valve expert/owner would know.

Honestly, a stock F1 is out of breath at 8K. And the last K is only for over-rev.

Wow....I didnt realize any 400 or even 851/888 had an 11k redline instrument, 2k higher than an F1

Thanks for the help, I could swap sides with the speedo drive, but, puts cable on the wrong side of the guard for the rubber cable guide, might have to be another speedo.

Or how about if I use Veglia angled gearbox as used on Guzzi, will that re reverse the reverse?

Then any of these late 80s thru 90s bikes ( pasos-sports-supersports-888 ) will work. MikeV

I am perplexed. If speedo drive is on left and speedo clock is 900 then it should work. I switched my F1 from right hand drive coming off top of axle to left hand coming off bottom (using the same drive) and it solved the problem. I still say flopping it to the other side will work. Can you post a side view of the wheel with the drive? Seeing the actual drive might help. MikeV

Look at pages 4 and 5 of the Laguna Seca clone: 900ss dash; M1Rs; Paso fender; and old-style Veglia speedo drive on the left side coming off the bottom of axle. Same as my F1. MikeV

Hi Mike, thanks for your help, I think my next move is to use 900ss speedo drive on left side and that eliminates all the variables. I have plenty of space in there because of the M1Rs, so if in doubt change the lot, best regards Marc
