Before they start welding on that frame : isn't necessary to make a subframe so that all mounting points still line up with the engine mounts ?
A bare engine would be perfect : that can take the stress in all dimensions.
Maybe it happened because the bare frame was subjected to weight without an engine in it, then the place of that crack becomes indeed a stresspoint.
For my Pantah I made 2 aluminium pieces (just a flat with a piece of tube welded on) to put in the place of the engine and tosupport the rear fork.
But that frame can take more load without an engine.

I think it is an excellent choice, the bicycles are very performing now and the frames are well cared for and well welded

..are you sure about the frame tubing material? The Pantah frame was build out of steel fe 35 which is in our day discription the material number 1.0308 which is nothing special at all.

No, I am not sure. I was told this by someone who has worked on F1s before, so I trust him.

I do recall reading that the F1 frame was made from chromoly, but that is but a faint memory.

I have TIG welded a couple of F1 and F3 frames using stainless rod with no special issues. Pretty sure it is seamless steel tube, you are going to be welding up against an existing MIG weld material, that's why I use stainless filler as it will pretty much stick anything to anything.

I was looking at my own bike as to how I would do it, grind it out reweld, not much space for too much support/

I am nearly finished reassembling my Moto Guzzi and can start dismantling the F1 afterward. Once the frame is off, I can search for welders.

They are DM frames. I have bought one and the quality is quite good.

Happy 2021!

I finally got back to the F1 and am at the last stage of removing the frame.

Question: Does anyone know of a way to remove the frame without removing the swingarm and keeping the original centerstand spring pin intact?

My guess is no, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

BTW I discovered two reasons why the frame probably cracked: The right-side front frame bolt was missing, and the top rear through-case bolt did not have a nut installed on the right side.

Sometimes things happen for a reason...

Hello Wolf.

Pick up a Pantah frame, and then an F1 frame. You will be shocked. Same for the swingarms.

The Pantah frame is over 30 lbs; the F1 about 17. It is not from less tubing.
