Has anyone rewired an altenator? If not is there someone who can provide the service?

Having a hard time with this bike, are you Frank?

So you are not getting a good charge and you are positive it is the stator? You know how to test it for resistance and output? And you took Lou’s advice and checked all the related grounding points? No corrosion at the connections? Good battery?

If it is that part there use to be good replacements found on ebay. And Ed Milich has one listed there now. They are getting scarcer. I think it is “Rick’s Motorsports Electric” that sells replacement parts ($213 for an F1 stator). Like many trade skills and services i suspect finding someone to rewind it is getting harder. PS: did you solve the carb problems?

Carb problem was solved and bike ran well although I wasn’t sure what the problem was.Just put them back together a second time and they worked.However, discovered that the wires from the altenator had deteriorated badly. Have found that used altenatos aren’t in much better condition than the one I have.Rewiring is the right job but finding someone who can do it is difficult.

Good for you on the carbs. And i agree about used stators - rolling the dice. There is always Rick’s.

If the wires aren’t rotted all the way to the stator maybe a short (but good) patch from good wire to connections will work. Bullet connections are more favored than spades now for this wiring. Pulling the exhaust (my least favorite thing to do) and the side cover is time consuming and oily, but doable. You will be surprised at the strength of the rotor magnet - no screwdrivers allowed here! The two locating dowels may also resist. No screwdrivers! This is where the special puller that goes on the crankshaft hole helps. If you do not drain the oil before then put a pan under the engine. Notice the different length of screws and where they go. Sometimes the stators slides out, sometimes you fight it.

Rick says they are not doing alternators. Too busy. Had no trouble removing the pipes, side cover and coil from the rotor. But now I’m back to square one. Somewhere, somebody, knows how to fix this thing. Maybe a trip to Italy or Australia is needed.[/color]

I think your suggestion may work. The wires are in much better condition closer to the stator. I don’t know why that is but it looks like I can make connection where they exit the side cover. Thanks for the help Mike.

I found a guy here in Canada, he usually does car stuff but did a great job on mine.
Maybe see if you can find a small automotive electrical guy.
