I am interseted to know if anyone can help me. My bike is either a 1986 or 1987 model with Cagiva decals, however it has the Nippon Denso Guages like the early 1985 model. The frame number ends in 1449 if that helps.

Ozzy, according to Ian Falloon's guide, your serial number does in fact put it into the 1986 range (the '87 numbers started at 1505). I have some across one other '96 numbered bike that had the '85 dash unit in it, and the serial number was in the midrange of the '86 numbers - at the time I had thought someone must have fitted it to the bike, but maybe there's more to this than meets the eye (given Ducati's reputation for fitting whatever they could lay their hands on at the time of production). Perhaps one of our more astute afficianados could chime in on this?

I did hear that there were a transition of 85 to 86 from Govt to Cagiva ownership where they used the parts bins to make the bikes as supply dried up due to not paying suppliers. My interest is to underatdn which engine I have the A or the B model as they are quite different. I guess the spark plug size will tell me (smaller on the later model).
