Hello Friends, I do not think I'll never have the three frames on the bench workshop DUCATI TT2 that have shaped the history of Italian motorcycling.

I took some pictures and I weighed the bike frames.

The frame Verlicchi replies that you see in the picture, was produced by a dear friend, and is a project that will realize in the near future.

I hope this is of interest to my initiative.

for me it is easier to publish the photos, trying to explain with words.

If you want to know more, you ask I'll try to answer.

Ciao dall'Italia CARLO.

Hi Carlo, you are correct, this will not happen very often so thank you. Are you restoring the GPM? I guess the Moretti is the lightest? I was surprised to see how light it is. Bigger tubing, lighter gauge? Lou

Hello Lou, the frame Moretti for my humble opinion is much higher than Verlicchi.

The frame gpm, I have not yet had the pleasure to try it on track.

We tried the bike replication Moretti number 2, and I can assure you it's like riding a Ducati 851.

Has no problem of cattering, such as the Verlicchi, it is very easy to handle and does not move during braking of an inch.

is the lightest of all three frames motion.

The swinging arm of GPM, is very heavy, due to the lateral displacement, very outside, of the rear shock.

Peter Barchitta won the Italian championship with a GPM in 1985, I think.
Leandrini of Moretti came second in the league with the usual number of races won, but Barchitta won by points difference.

I hope to be understood.

I want to talk, talk, talk, but I'm afraid of being misunderstood.
Ciao

frame verlicchi-12 kg svingarm 3,5 kg
frame moretti- 10 kg svingarm 2,0 kg
frame GPM - 12,5 kg svingarm 5,0 kg

frame without swingarm verlicchi 7,5 kg
frame without swingarm GPM 7,5kg
frame without swingarm moretti 6,5 kg

I have weighed with a scale, the weight is approximate, and may be a margin of error

Hi Carlo, I understand completely. I love to hear about the different bikes. It's amazing to think about all the developement with these frames for the Pantah motor. It really is an important time in Ducati development.

Hello Pat, hello Lou, hello to all you who are listening to me.
At that time, in Italy, England, in America, the craftsmen have done so with such passion shades of preparations, on that beautiful engine DUCATI pantah.

This photo is in the workshop "MURA" is a trainer with such passion that changed the very competitive Piero Giannesin GPM.

The name pilot is Miterangelis.

Hi Carlo, lou, Steve, Mike, everybody !.

The story about frames are fascinating Carlo, and certainly the weights of frames and swinging arms are impressive.

During the 1983/4 F2 world championship, and British and European season I was struggling to to keep Tony Rutters F2 Ducati ahead of the F2 Mitsui Yamahas, one or two other dealer entered Yamahas, especially the guys who had found a way of using TZ cranks and bit's and pieces, and hiding them from the technical inspectors. We had lightened everything, (within safety) on the bike and in the engine. I had even fabricated from alloy sheet a megaphone. On one of my visits to the factory we were given a F2 frame that was manufactured by Daspa, this frame was physically lighter than the F2 Verlichi frame, and if my memory is correct we also had given to us a Daspa manufactured exhaust system that was lighter than the Verlichi one. I was led to believe that the factory racing team did use one or two Daspa frames, perhaps Carlo you may know this ?.

Unfortunately the Daspa frame was completely wrecked, ( broken in half ) in the accident in Spain that ended Tony's competitive career.

All of my photographs and records from that period were never given back to me when Ducati UK/TR Racing closed at the end of the 1985 season, so I have no record of frame and swinging arm weights etc.

All that I have is a photograph of the frame with a Daspa sticker on it.

Ciao, Pat.
