Post subject:  gearbox breakdown

Hi guys,

I've been reading this forum for a while but never bothered registering.
But now I have run into a problem with my F1, when I was out for a run I heard a funny noise and had a problem with gear selection. Checking things out at the side of the road, I couldn't find anything unusual. As my mobile phone had died I decided to nurse the bike back home as it felt the spring return on the gear selector had broken. The 10 mile journey home didn't cause too much trouble, I stopped twice to check and found nothing unusual. When I got home I noticed oil on the chain and tyre. With further checks it looks like the chain is a bit slack and when draining the oil I found parts of a bearing cage... I suspect the output shaft bearing has gone and hope there is nothing wrong with the internal parts but fear the worst. Engine sounds fine and the clutch is working as normal. Can you guys suggest which engine types gearbox will fit in an F1B dryclutch engine with modern splines. My shortlist is as follows: F1, 650/750 Elefant/Alazzurra/Indiana, 89/90 750 Sport/Paso, 91 750SS, but there may be more modern ones that will fit without problems? Also if anyone has such a box spare and willing to sell (preferably UK/Europe) then please let me know.

Thanks,

Jurgen
