Presently I am having an intermittent ignition spark problem. The plug sparks are not strong and seem to intermittently not appear when I turn the motor over. I need to check all the connections and wires.
So does anyone have a suggestion on a replacement ignition system for the F1? It might be time to upgrade if one is available.

Henry, Most likely the insulation on the pickup wires has deteriorated and fallen off causing the pickups to short to ground or each other.It is pretty easy to check with an ohmmeter. The resistance across the pickup leads should be around 220 ohms and there should be infinite resistance between the two sets of leads and each lead to ground.Confused? I am just by writing it. In other words none of the wires should be touching anything between the pickup and the terminal end. The insulation falls off inside the left case and mostly will short to the mounting boss and where the wires pass through the case grommet.Rewiring them isn't too difficult but you do have to pay close attention to polarity and location in the plug.Wire is available through Bevelheaven and probably other sources,it just needs to be oil resistant.

And check the metal bit that senses the trigger on the flywheel isn't loose in the potted plastic/resin in the pick up. (in the centre of the pick up)

Even if you get decent readings with the meter, they can still be flaky. As Bill said, they most commonly fail from being crushed under the the gland nut. Bottom line; if they ain't recent - swap 'em and set a proper gap. On the plus side, the wire / pick-up kit's readily available at a fair price from most Duc dealers.

Thanks everyone. I'll be pulling the complete system apart this weekend.
Steve, Is there a upgrade to the complete ignition system for higher performance?

Eldert's right, I've got one of the Microclassic ignitions but I bought the singles version, haven't tried the belt twins one tho. I'm sure it will be robust and very well built. In my case I've simply used the Kokusan pickups native to all the carby belties from Paso on. Never a problem.
The Microclassic has a programmable ignition advance curve. Interesting. Built-in shut off to save ignition coils if switch is accidentally left on. Hmmm.

interesting outboard ignition system..... but I don't really understand the fitting system...."The trigger is designed to mount on the front cylinder cam drive"....
is somebody have some explanations....

I've been slowly going through my F1B ignition system. The wire leads to the pick-ups from Bevelheaven are excellent. You get enough wire to do it a couple of times…so you can screw it up a couple of times and have wire left over. I was recommended to change my coils and so I got some Dyna Black Coils. Everyone agrees that they are the best and everyone also seems to agree that the stock Femsa coils are way below average. My problem is figuring out where to mount the coils. They are too big to go in the stock position. I think that I'm going to go to a local fabricator and have some tabs put on the frame.
Anyhow…the advice that I was given and that I am now passing on is to replace the coils..

Thanks everyone. I found a couple of problems. One was a broken wire, might have been done during trouble shooting. The second was a loose ground lug bolt for the ign modules. once I fixed them both, perfect spark and idles great now.
Now does anyone have a source for 40mm delorto air filters? The best I can find is the K&N R-1100 but the inside diameter is 1.688 inches and the 40mm dels are 2 inches. I could increase the ID if necessary.
