I've been reading this site avidly since deciding to get an F1 in back in May. I bought the bike from one of the board members, and it's now arrived from LA.

The bike was originally the first F1B imported into US. I understand that the bike was owned from new by Cagiva N.A, and raced by Duanne Summers before he sold it to get an 851 in late '87. It's been owned by the previous owner since then. It's done more racing, in that time, but is now set up for the road.
So, it's a long way from a standard F1B. The frame has been modified with the muffler hangers and centre stand removed, and painted white, etc, gussetted vellochi swing arm, 40mm delortos, Completely non standard electrics, Brembo Goldline brakes, the fairing is in undercoat, etc.

So, the obvious thing is to paint the bike in the colours of it's racing days.

And that's where I'm hoping some of the gurus of this bulletin board can help me out. Does anybody have a photo of Duane Summer's bike, or another one from the period which would be set up the same?

Of course being a racing bike, it'll also require a few stickers, and I'm sure all sorts of thingummeebobs and doodads to bring it back to how it was in the day.
- Can't wait to get started.

Ray.

Congratulations on your new purchase! It looks like it was a pretty serious machine in its day! Love the front calipers, looking for a set of those for my Full Monty project.

I look forward to seeing some pics of it back in the day if anyone out there has some? and more details on the modifications.

Cheers,

Very cool bike Ray. Please post more and closer pictures while the bodywork's off to paint. What wheels are those?

Thanks for the encouraging words.
This won't be one of those bike builds where a truly skilled craftsman constructs a beautiful TT bike from some bits of chrome-moly tubing and a pot of fibreglass. Rather I want to take a very sound bike, and polish up all the little corners, and rough edges that inevitably appear in a 25 year old warhorse.

The first step is just getting the bike registered to ride on the road. That's probably going to take 3 weeks to resolve (*** sigh ****)
In the mean time, I'll audit the changes that have been made from origninal, so that I can decide what stays, and what needs to be changed.

I'll get some photos of the bike with the bodywork off shortly.

I'll be asking all sorts of questions for ideas on how to really tidy up things like wiring, and routing hoses and so on. I really appreciate the expertise that is available on this site.

Bill, the wheels are Technomagnesios (Techno Magnesio??) 17".
