la tige,

Personally I like the kokusan setup. I have found that with a little work you can tailor the idle setting and full advance to exactly the settings you want by modifing the pickup on the flywheel and setting the pickups with a degree wheel. With the kokusan one side of the flywheel lump is idle and the other is full advance. This is probably more work then say a ignitech programable, but with racing the yellow bike for over 10 years it was a very reliable setup and never had a ignition related failure.

That is really neat to know Gary; that something simple will still work. Did you ever dink around with the DP ignition boxes? MikeV

Bruce Meyers likes Kokusan stuff too. That's what's going in the "Garage Find".

Mike,

Never saw any Horsepower or Torque differences with the DP boxes, but they were a little cheaper. The kokusan are a little messy on the dyno getting the fine adjustment of the advance for a motor combination, but once you have it, it's real easy to always get the same setting. I degree the ignition pickups very similar to doing cams.

Hi Guys,

As on my "tt2" using dyna ignition ( Kawasaki z900/1000 ) with a custom machined plate to mount outboard of the cam belt drive pulley.(this requires drilling & tapping the shaft to fit the "trigger rotor" easy to dial in with degree wheel

Also micro-classic ignitions here in Australia do a programmable set up that is mounted inside the crankcases. I dont have any experience with these units though. ( may try on my being built hot-rod db1 engine !!) I think the cost is $750.00 Aus inc coils

Regards

Russell

Hello ,

Image

I am often asked: What gap must be put between the electrodes with your ignition, what spark plug should I use , etc.
until now, I have not given any answer
It is very simple, the spark plugs that I use are either dcpr8ea or ra4hc but without electrodes mass.
if we take into account the pressures in the combustion chamber when the spark occurs and if we take into account the test on my bench, you can easily remove the electrode mass and enjoy a spark 3mm long.
this change causes:
increase of the engine idling
better combustion
especially rapid accelerations revs
