And here is the engine i will use. Went into it again, and all good or new now. Shimmed up nicely. Since this is an NCR pantah frame it gets one of the Red Fox replica NCR clutches. Not a “bolt on”, but finally got it figured out and fitted. MikeV

Every time i think all things necessary to put this thing together are done there is one more. Here are some photos showing modifications needed to make the clutch drum fit inside the basket and for the pressure plate to release on shifts. On the left is a stock hub, in the center is my modified version, and on the right is a used one that came with some old NCR - thanks goodness i found those parts years ago. You can see the machining on the inside of the hub and outside where the shaft nut fits, and the difference in height after. It even helps to smooth the weld bumps on the steel pressure plate. There are just enough threads showing on the stock wet-clutch shaft to install the 30mm nut. And, this will hold only 13 plates, not the 16 stock number for a Pantah. I had to insert bronze bushings into the release “spider” to support the stock lever since the shaft is 12mm diameter and the long hole for it is 16mm, and increase the size of the hole over the center release peg. And a bit more. These show how little room is left on the shaft, and how short the clutch pack will be - about 30mm vs 34mm stock. Also, if you replace the outer basket those 8 risers must be removed and the rivet holes tapped for 6mm screws. Finally, just finishing up (tacked together) a clutch holding tool using a damaged clipon and five rusty driven plates. The early hub for the 500 Pantah is smaller than all later versions. MikeV

I am always amazed at the tool clutter that results from this kind of thing.

All assembled except the lever “thumb”.

Finally, for only $229.99, i can sell you a custom tool for this assembly. I have one clipon left and some driven plates. Of course, there may be tariffs involved, and Paypal fees, and if i ship via DHL they will double the customs fees, and then charge you for not having an account. And don’t forget the bank fee for currency conversion. So, when all is totaled, you should be in for less than $400 - maybe $450. But i do have it in stock. Once i make it. Or order it from China. Hi Mike... Is this necessary because of the differences between the main shaft lengths and the wet/dry secondary gears. Did you have to shorten the pillars on the pressure plate and are the dry clutch plates thicker? Wasn't Lou looking for some Verlicchi clip-ons?
Flattop.

I will try to answer more specifically in a while flattop, but i think the answer to all your questions is - yes. Right now my brain hurts.

Just when i thought i was done. After i tightened the clutch shaft nut to over 100 ft-lbs i noticed that the basket and the crankshaft were difficult to turn, and barely possible by hand. Not normal. So off go some parts. You can see where the outside edge of the big oil seal was standing too proud (Brit talk) of the surface, and rubbing the hub. I had thought about this beforehand, but was just off a bit - like .020” or .030”. A punch with a big diameter and some gentle taps with a hammer and it is solved. No haunting thoughts now;i got off easy.
