Hallo Everybody.
With the winter racing break I start a new project.
The above engine is the one I race with for years, now replaced with the 513cc.
My idea is to assemble a stock Alazzurra for daily use or for aving fun on "curvy street".

So I start rebuilding everything and only when I put the engine on the new frame I check for valve clearance. Everything ok except for this:

Well, you got the miles in, but this makes me wonder what the rod bearings look like, and the clutch, and.......?

Both exhaust valves hit, gently, the piston.
In years of racing I never heard about any strange head noise.

Notice, by the cut on the vertical cylinder, that his is a 350ss 540 kit adapted to an Alazzurra 350.
Maybe this is wy valves "lick" the pistons and of course a lack of maintenance.
Thank you MikeV for your reply, I belive, but I hope not, that going deeper with this engine I will need to refresh everything.
Ciao
Filippo

About Your kit, I think it is one of the early GioCaMoto kits, made for the Pantah and Alazzurra 350's with exhaust on front.
Someone used it on a 350 SS or (in my case) on a 350 Elephant, hence the rough cutout on the REAR to clear the exhaustport.
Later kits ( even the 600-700 kit) had the cutout on both sides.
Great work keeping those litlle engines alive.
Should be interesting having them both on the powerbench to compare although the bigger valves should be a indication.

Buon natale

Ciao Ducadini e grazie.
You're right, I just get confused on looking the pictures of the engine and decided was a 350ss kit.
But I was wrong.
So Giocamoto kit for Alazzurra definitely.
Yes as before I hope to check this engines, maybe the 513 on a powerbench.
Buone feste!!

Looking good Filippo. Did you resolve the valve / piston clearance issue?
Regards....

Hi Flattop
Not yet checked the clearance.
But valves job is done and also a little of porting on head.

Above the orizzontal head with a little of removed material.
I find heads with this rough porting attempt.

Same head but ported.

Shane on me.
For same reason I was sure this engine was 540 c.c.
Yesterday, with the engine open I misured the bore, just because samething wrong was flipping on my brain.
So true bore is 74 mmm

So I have a 440 cc Giocamoto kit.

No problem, still a nice engine for have fun!
