I visited the national motorcycle museum at Nabiac today, and to my surprise was this little gem. I’d seen a picture or two but never in the flesh. It’s a beauty. Boucher.

Nice to see the details in these. Look at that redline. Definitely NCR frame, exhaust, and combo tank & seat. A lot of other parts look like added and changed over its (long) racing life, like the Dymags, billet clutch lever/master, GPM rocker covers, and the neat oil filter part with connections to the cooler. Thanks, MikeV

Clay, I’ve talked to pete Smith about the epicycle allazurra, he built three stroker cranks. One in it (allazurra) and another went to gowanlochs bimota db1. STD 750 cases. I put a photo on here somewhere of the allazurra taken at Wsbk Oran park in 88. I can still remember lucchinelli saying nooo, nooo when he was told how big the donk was. Also had injection. I think it ended it’s days in NZ. Though I’m not sure what the late mick saffelsF1 or Pete’s TL got to do with a bike at Nabiac. Boucher.

Great looking machine. OK Mike is that an NCR pantah frame like you have or is it a DM? It also looks nickel plated. The twin shocks makes me thing it's a DM. Top picture is a Tarkay NCR replica and the bottom is a DM. Anyone? Lou

I assumed that Verlicchi build the modified frame for NCR on the same frame-mould as the Original Pantah, the similarities between both frames are significant. Probably because the regulations stipulated standard frame possible WITH strengthening (as in old superbike rules).
AND they were just across the autostrada in Bologna
Later they could get rid of the two shocks and use the F1 monoshock rear fork with a little modification.
Better materials, reinforced front engine mounts and repositioning the rear vertical frametube to take load of the horizontal and the strengthening crosstube resulted in better enginemanagement : the right front engine case didn't break (or it lasted longer) then with the flexing Original frame.
Since Verlicchi has other priorities now, others stepped in to produce the frame (hence my suspition that dimensions are "Pantah") like Taraky Racing and others. They are (rather) cheap, one can use most of the standard bodywork (either Pantah or Alazzurra) and finding parts isn't too difficult.
I never got to comparing them, standard frames enough but NO real (and I mean 80's real) NCR.
I think the angle of the head is a bit modified to speed up turning.

Interesting pics down there and GREAT enthusiasts to go and build such bikes to battle the japanese superbikes.

ciao
ducadini

I have a DM frame in the shop and had an NCR frame. I am pretty sure the tubing is a bigger diameter on the DM. I will measure tomorrow and maybe Mike V will measure his NCR and let us know. Lou
