..ooh and also a wheel spacer shelf so you dont have to hold the wheel up and slide the axle in

I thought that's why we evolved feet.

Jaydeetz,

most excellent results!
the swingarm is nicely proportional to
your frame tubing. and the welds ---
beautiful heat control.
your father (i assume) heliarced the
s'arm . . . good on you both for the opportunity
of his skill.
once you get started attaching the pretty
stuff -- i am not so interested. i am the
metal-below-the-pretty-gearhead type
guy.
but thanks for showing the bare naked lady
so far.
:D

Thanks, yes my Dad tigged the swingarm, I can tig alloy (I am re-working the rear head) and braze as well but Dad is better at it, ha ha.

This is the RG he made below, so he got lots of practice making this...it came out well and is by far the most fun bike I have ever raced, its based on the F1 bikes of the mid eighties, so a road motor in a Mk9 frame..made me feel like Schwantz racing it which probably made me go quicker on it, but I was scared to crash it as its his bike.
He also made the tank, pipes, swingarm...everything really except the Gamma motor. Its a shame, but cranks are running short and you just cant race it hard for a season without something giving up on it, hence the Ducati route.

Not bad for an (now retired) Post Office Engineer and I develop boilers (but am shop apprentice trained), so together we can pretty much make or do anything !

The rocker arm is done, the 4 frame brackets (two on each side as per original) are done but will weld them on tomorrow. We have to wait until the alloy and steel stockists are open again before we can make the swingarm to rocker linkage assembly though :(

It may not be exactly as the works ones were, but its alloy and in the same place and the ratio is just a little over 1.1:1 rising rate so it should be OK.

Bracings all done, just minor detail work now (bobbins etc), but that can wait...we are getting close to a bike now !

Weight of the swing arm so far is just over 3kg, not too bad really and yes, its a stiff as it looks as well, proper WSB stuff here.

Picking up the taper rollers from the bearing shop tomorrow then we can mount the forks in the headstock once we machine the cups for the bearings, sling some old wheels on and see what we have. The R6 in the background you see is having some headwork done, so we took the opportunity to measure it all for the peg, seat geometry, as it happens it wont be too far out from that.
We also measured the rear wheel of the R6..with sprocket and disc and a 190 tyre its 14kg...which isnt actually that bad. We have 5" Marvics for the RG and they are 11kg, but without cush or a disc...I think I will use R6 wheels for my wets to keep down the costs a bit.

That is some very nice work on the swingarm, it is really close to the original.
As it stands right next to my computer!

Cheers Jarno.

We have to have some artistic license, so it would never be an exact copy..but near enough :D

Looks effing good mate! I take it it is for the standard Ducati SS/888/851/Monster type 3 spoke 5.5 x 17 rear wheel, with the standard 520 chain sprocket carrier and brake caliper carrier..for the width dimensions? if so gimme gimme gimme :D
