Carlo, yep this little key drives the camshafts. This is std Harley practice. I’m told to use red loctite everywhere and 85 ftlbs on crank nut. Boucher.

Ok, if they tell us to do this, we are safe.

Well it’s been a busy few weeks. Just got the crankshaft back from the balancers. I had to machine about 6mm off the overall diameter and had to thin the flywheels down by 6mm as well. My little lathe struggled for 2 days and that’s just to get it to fit into the cases also had to thin nuts, shorten pin and lower where nut sits on the flywheel. They fitted that big piece of Mallory to balance it to the new Carrillo rods and XR1000 pistons. Trued to within 1.5 thou and loctite on threads and tightened to 185ftlbs...Boucher.

never seen anything like this, I can't understand how the connecting rod that has the two ends on the outside of the crankshaft is guided, aren't they next to like the ducati? Where is the roller cage? :o
I don't want to waste your time, ignore me .... :D

Hi Ducati People’s, these engines are R/H shift to go left maybe? Anyway I needed a L/H shift. I’d borrowed a ironhead clutch cover with L/H shift hole. I’d blocked off the original R/H shift hole with alloy. Lined up the 4 matching engine case holes and redrilled the cases. Made up a nice boss and got my mate Dave to weld it in. Now this was a Friday weld with beers involved! So it wasn’t till later I realised the clutch cover had distorted by about 3mm. So the bush mechanic once more came out of me and I bolted it to a piece of truck chassis, tightened it down with a strip of metal in the middle. I than wrapped in black plastic and left on the roof of my shed over summer (I’d actually forgot where it was!) for at least 3months. I released the bolts and to my amazement it’s now flat again! Australian summer heat, you cannot beat it. Boucher.

Great job Chris......can ya scramble me some eggs up on the shed roof while you are straightening out those Harley parts. I think it is appropriate that you have to use a bigger "hammer" to build this bike than some darn Italian bike
