Im sorting out the cylinder heads after a false start. I bought 2 heads out of the US only to find the rear one had been reversed like a paso...apparently they did that back in the day. So I got onto another NOS item that came unported( ports were half filled with casting) no guides and no valve seats. So I just matched the porting off the the front head. Than I made up some manifolds. Next up is sorting out valve springs pressure, shims underneath springs and so on. Keep safe. Boucher.

Another curve ball found this week. Front cylinder head has a slightly larger diameter combustion chamber to the NOS item. Why I have no idea. This will leave a squish band about 2.5-3.00mm wide around the edge of the piston. Enough??? Boucher

This looks very similar to setting up some Ducati/Cagiva 500-650 heads of different years in a row. There are subtle differences like that, and the profiles of the bowls just look a bit different. And sometimes the plug hole is close to one valve, such as the intake, while on other sets it is the opposite. So I have tried not to mix years when making a set. I have wondered how much difference there is in the chamber CCs, and if the compression ratio is affected enough to matter. That might be a concern in this case because the difference is notable. You could always make the smaller one bigger with a grinding tool and sandpaper and a lot of patience. Or maybe one of your welder friends could add material to the bigger chamber, and the you grind and polish away. MikeV

Thanks mike, I’m thinking I’ll machine it out to match the slightly larger one. What could possibly go wrong???? Boucher.

Easy for a man of you talents!
How about machine up a ring that fits the of of the squish band and make the id of the other chamber, bore the id to a angle close to the big chamber and you have a good guide to help from you going too big.
Is there any way to fixture it by using the stud holes, set it up in a 4 jaw in the large?
I look forward to seeing your solution!
Paul
