Very nice and fully loaded. The engine Ducati neglected to build before they twisted the rear head. Do the no idle carbs have the no idle Malossi slides? $$$$$$

They have those big but light slides with no slots, and long soft springs. Insides entirely different than standard Dellortos. No idle circuit, and ticklers for chokes. Not sure where to start for main jets —- big —- I guess. MikeV

The 42.5mm carbs I have are fitted with a 175 main (front cylinder), but used on a 750.

Mike the carbs on the Calles motor are 41, same bore and stroke as yours jets were 190 195

Okay so while rebuilding a set of those light slide soft spring Malossi's I found a strange thing on top of the slide...a lead weight! 1.5x1.5 inches of solid lead. I asked Cranky and he said that some people at high RPM said the light slides stayed up! C'mon Cranky tell the story. Lou

Thanks flattop and huit. I can only go to 185 now, so will add a few more jets to the box. I will probably be running it leaner than they did back in the days...…. Lean is mean.

I am glad I decided to fit a shock again, and glad I had already decided to sand the frame and re-prime it. Fitting/installing the shock was not as easy as one might think; but once you solve it it seems rather simple. The hose has no coating, so it removed a bit of paint here and there during the process.

Have also discovered that I can fit only a 14-tooth front sprocket; a 15 absolutely will not fit.

Finally, I have never seen a mudguard of any kind on any photos of these bikes. But I cannot bring myself to run this without something protecting the rear carb from the junk thrown off the chain and rear tire. There is room to add something simple.

what compression ratio did you do? Squish?
If you have compressed your engine enough, I think an oil cooler that brings fresh oil to the heads would be useful, if you have compressed up to 12.5 / 1 the bike warms up, I have done the compression ratio at 13/1 but I use it in uphill races, I do three km and stop, when I went to test it in a somewhat small circuit, after 4 laps I had the engine oil at 120 degrees, and I mounted a radiator from Bursi, a lot beautiful.

Yes.....that would be a big concern. I guess I dont even understand what advantage there is with light slides on a cable operated slide?

Hay Mike l,ll echo all the other comments... Nice build! exciting to watch this.
On the Malossi subject there are a few options for idle. You can carefully add a flat and install a screw stop.
I've also used a thumb wheel on the top which helps in warm-up. Whats funny about this I could modulate the idle by turning the front wheel/cable tension as the motor warmed up. Just do not forget to set them back down before proceeding out!
About the subject of adding lead I am not sure but maybe that is wheelie control or rev limiter?
All seriousness those big slides with light springs can stick with bigger motors especially with race fuel residue at closed position. (highest vacuum).
I've seen weights added to help them drop but mostly street application.
