Well that turned out very nice Paul. And a tribute to Calles (#50) i see. But i also see non-homologated carbs there; you are only allowed 36mm Dellortos. So i am filing a protest. MikeV

That's a great looking build Paul. Should garner a lot of attention at your next outing. I've always been impressed with the quality of the paint on your bikes. Such a high liquid depth to it. Whoever is shooting them obviously knows what they are doing. Is the rear shock length and swingarm geometry based on an existing model TT1, TT2, F1 or NCR Pantah? Or is it something you worked out yourself? Nice job. Flattop

Thanks for the compliments gentlemen! The location of the shock was based on a tt length shock and measurements from the Calles Tt. I have always used painters based on their work and availability. This paint was done by John Connery, the Calles Tt was done by Roger at Extreme Measures. I figure since I do all of my work I can use a good painter. Usually the paintwork is done well before the project is finished. You are at the mercy of good painters so if it takes them 6 months so be it.

Finally got the pantah out to the track! She starts right up maybe a little fat on the pilot settled in to an idle quickly and takes throttle without any hesitation. Handling was much better with the monoshock rear conversion, front end a little stiff for my liking but that is a minor adjustment. I purchased pre load adjusters from old racing spare parts, a little lathe work will allow me to take some preload off. A few heat cycles in a few signs of smoke began to appear as well as a small oil leak, once oil leak was identified and looked after I went out again, on the front straight bringing up the rpm the smoke appeared again. I came back in, went out on my multistrada while the pantah cooled down. I decide to park the pantah and ride the multistrada for the next day and a half. Yesterday back at home I decided to investigate and found the vertical head has either a bad valve guide seal or guide. Motor will come out in a few days time….. at least I have something to do now that I am fully retired.

Fully retired! Way to go. You will be busier than ever Paul.
Why do they run perfectly in the garage? And why is the V head so often the trouble-maker? So easy to take off the H head.
PS: It is humanly possible to replace a valve seal without removing the head and the entire valve train, and to leave the head in place. A heart surgeon would find it to be easy. You might try that first.

Oh, and i need to check the date on that helmet. Looks old.

Mike. I pondered that this morning on my walk, I will give it a try! You are right about the helmet, it’s old but has never had much use.

I can’t remember how i did it, but i swapped the black and green seals on a “completed” engine. This after CARLO told me the greens went on the intake stems, and the black on the exhaust. And then changed his mind about a week later. So, after complaining, i swapped them. Never a problem. MikeV
My AGO helmet is equally with little wear.
