Hi
Just found & joined the forum. Looks like a handy place.

I've got a 1985 750 F1 - bought it new.

Here it is being put away for the winter Image

My favourite Ducati.

I'm impressed you have had all those beauties since new. Your F1 looks like a well cared for rider. How many miles? I'll bet they came easier after installing the Ohlins shock. Very nice bikes.

Tassie is the perfect place for Ducatis, except for the winter. Where in Tasmania?

The Ohlins & a 140/70/18 rear tyre transform the F1 from nervous & harsh into confident & firm. An amazing difference. The F1 has about 35000kms (21000 miles) on it. The MHR 45000kms (27000m) & the 851 32000kms (19000miles).
They all get used but looked after. They've all spent a few years here & there unregistered. The F1 perhaps a few more than it deserved, because it can be hard to find an inspector who's prepared to overlook the full floater (full rattley), stamped "not for highway use" disks that came standard. No problems with that now - Tasmania doesn't have annual inspections :mrgreen:

Winter time is when Qld looks tempting. We're in the Huon Valley, here specifically http://www.oldbank.com.au (blatant plug). We moved down from Sydney about 3 years ago. Great bike roads around here, though in winter the worry that a damp looking patch might be black ice tends to make it nerve wracking (even in the car).

Bruce, the "Orangery" is crying out for a bike display! F1, MHR, 851, all would look good.

I lived in Hobart for a few years in the early 80's and I know what the black ice is like, I had a 1980 SS then as my only transport.
There are some good Ducati people in your area.

How much drama was it to get your bikes rego'd in Tas? I would like to move there one day.

LOL - they were in the Orangery for about 3 weeks (the Ducatiery?? :roll: ) - but being on the main street I got sick of cleaning the nose & drool marks off the glass front door.

I shipped them down from Sydney, they arrived on an open truck. I had instant new best friends in droves. including the local copper, who basically let me know "I know where they live, play nice".

1st rego in Tassie isn't that big a deal, basically a somewhat stricter roadworthy than the usual mainland annual version, at the local servo. In the Ducatis' case it was basically lights, blinkers, horn & I think he checked 1 swingarm for play - but it might be different at other servos. He basically said - they look like they're well taken care of, they'll pass.

Transformed is exactly the word I used after putting the same shock on my '86 B. Mine is just short of 42000Km. A great little ride, although the foot pegs mysteriously seem to be moving closer to the seat. Are you aware of the very good 851/888 forum? http://www.ducati851and888.com/

Yes, I know the 851 & 888 forum - it's another handy place now that parts are getting harder to source.

I know the feeling on the footpegs getting higher, my clipons seem to be getting lower & the tank seems to be growing so that it hits my gut more. You'd think after 25 odd years these bikes would have settled down & decided what shape they were going to be ;)

The damn things get away with murder over the winter layovers, because they know you're not watching them like a hawk. If they just weren't so cute, I'd teach 'em! It's good to hear mines not the only misbehaver.
