Hello,
I have a TT2 rep, and I am using 750SS wheels from a 1995 SS which was the doner bike. (I would like to replace these with lighter wheels when money is available)
Presently the rear is a 4.5" rim with a 160 x 55 tyre
The front is a 3" rim with a 120 x 70 profile tyre.
What, if any, are the recomendations for a TT2 ?
I know they originally had 18" wheels, but I used 17" to get a better range of tyres, and they were free with the doner bike.
Any advice or previous experiance? (road and ride day use)

Graeme

I picked up these wheels in Japan. They are Bito R+D who make wheels for some Moto GP teams. The are 17" forged magnesium and the entire surface is NC machined. The rear is 5.00X17. They are Capagnolo style and fit directly onto the Montjuic F1. They fit the 6 bolt brembo disk but also have carriers for the stock F1 rotor.

I had a friend in Japan buy these for me and send them to Canada. I had to wait a year to get them because of a shortage of Magnesium. Apparently China is buy all of it!

This company bought Techno-magnesio (sp) and now own the Campy pattern. If you look at some moto gp bikes you will see Magtan wheels on them. They are still new in the box and looking for a new home.

Hello Dan,

Thanks for the wheel info. They are excellent looking wheel.
I looked at their site and translated it with Google.
It says the rims are 367 500 Yen a pair, so I converted that and it was approx $4440.00 AUD !!!!
Still nice rims, maybe my conversion is way out.?

For a TT2 with 17 inch rims, what would be the optimum width?
I have at present 3 inch front and 4.5 inch rear.

Regards Graeme

Hi Graeme,
In my opinion what you have is just right. I've got three spoke Marvics in those sizes on mine and think they're great. There is a good selection of race tires for them and the rear tire (160) is not so wide as to bring on serious front sprocket offset issues. Back when local vintage rules required required 18" wheels with max widths of 2.5 and 3.5 inches, I had a set of Campagnolos in those widths that worked very well with race Avons.

Hey Graeme,

I was running 16"/18" wheels on my TT2 with Avon race tires. I am a firm believer that narrow rear tires turn faster. The rear was a 140 width and grip is not an issue.

With bikes that are light and don't make a lot of horsepower by modern standards the 5.5 and 6 inch rears are not the best setup. Hey, I've passed a lot of modern Ducati's on a single with 90/90 tires.

These wheels at 5" rear can work with 160 race tires for 250gp bikes or the sv650 style race bikes. They don't require a late model swing arm, new rotors, clalipers, forks, etc. so they maintain the appearance of the F1/TT.

A new set of Marchesini forged magnesium wheels for a 1198 list for $4,500. I bought them 4 years ago when they were 310,000 yen and the exchange rate was better. I have about $3,200 in them.

hello
The 3.50 and 4.0 or 4.5 x 17 wheels are the best for the F1 but at the moment I am using the “stock size” (2.50/16 – 4,50/18) for my bikes that’s why I am selling a pair of three spoke magnesium marvic wheels (3,50 and 4,50 x 17).
If someone is interested in them please let me know.
