Thanks for the great photos Mike. When that bike came out it blew my mind, and I HAD to have one. At the time the economy was bad, the machine tool company I worked for was on the verge of shutting down, and I was raising two kids pretty much single-handedly. But none of that mattered when a little Guzzi/Ducati shop, Gardner Cycles in central Massachusetts, said they were working on getting one in. I told them I'd take it and started paperwork on a second mortgage on my house. Well, they never got it in and the second mortgage fell through when I lost my job because the plant closed. I finally got a used one 13 years later, and still remember how exciting that introduction was. Bill

I agree with you Bill in regards to the release of the F1. When it came out I was even further than you from owning one. I was in highschool! But the first time I saw it I knew I had to have one. It was, in my mind the perfect motorcycle. Once I saw it no other motorcycle would do. Anything produced in Japan just seemed uninspired. I made due with a salvaged FZ700 throughout college years, (which cost me more than the car I was driving) but I pined and secretly schemed for an F1. I look back and am actually happy that I didn't manage to get one back then as my poverty and youth would have most certainly meant the destruction of a truly wonderful motorcycle. And afterall that's what japanese motorcyles are for.

I had a SS back then and it was my ride to work bike and only transport. I really wanted a TT2, but that wasn't going to happen. Then the F1 came along and I couldn't afford that either, so the SS had a hard life. I sold it for 3k,,,,,,, It took me till my mid 50's to get a TT2 (had to build my own) but I never did get an F1.
